Title: Au revoir Paris!
Post by: kampala on March 15, 2020, 03:23:44
After 15 years of living in Paris we are moving back to California.   The move was planned prior to the Coronavirus exploding around the world but what crazy timing.

We were to pack our apartment next week and everything was to be loaded into a shipping container. Our one-way flights were planned for 22nd March.  However, due to the recent announcement of closing travel from Europe to USA, we took flights immediately before the midnight Friday deadline as there is a good chance airlines will stop flying out of Paris to USA temporarily.  This means we will have to return at some point to closeout the apartment.

Since my Pagodas have always been in California, this should give me much more time to work on them and drive them.

Business-wise, I am still working on Projects for France but will be doing that from our California offices.  It's been a great run in France but I am clearly ready to be back.

Thought it would be appropriate to post the "Pagoda World" Magazine I received just a day before our exodus as this will be the final one I will receive in France.

All the best on your move back Oz.  15 years is really a long run even for a great place like Paris.
I hope your transition back to California goes smoothly.

Safe journeys OZ. Been seeing the news this morning of the impact on airports, especially O’hare, of the crowds coming back to the US and having to await processing in severally overcrowded conditions. Hope you fared better and your 14 day quarantine goes OK as well. Difficult times for sure.

The way the situation was handled was clearly the opposite of how it should have been.  Hopefully you were spared unnecessary risk on your return.
And, eh, welcome back to sunny CA! (Working from our home for the coming weeks or months).

Thanks folks.

We have arrived to a nice rainy Southern California March.  Looks like we needed the rain.

Best ,

Dear Aslam,

Yes, very sad to hear you had to leave France eventually...
I always liked your very special "dual citizenship status" (sort of ....),
but now it's over.   :'(

Yes, Corona .... crazy times nowadays....
Yes, I have too good memories of Southern California, Hermosa Beach, the Pacific, and of course PagodaFest where we went with your car - what great memories...

We'll see what is going to happen until September... European Event ...
but we will see...!

All best for your new and old future!

Achim

Welcome Home Oz!  Not like your address had any bearing on your Pagoda Event attendance.

Hope you aren't in limbo for long...

Mike

We lived in Frankfurt for seven years, and there's where I bought my SL and 3.0CS.  We had such a nice time driving around Europe from there, including many trips to Paris.  I can certainly understand how you would miss it (though perhaps not in these times).  I miss the high quality of "oldtimer" service I was able to find there.

Have a nice time in CA!
Unfortunately, it seems Covid 19 knows no boundaries, and the situation looks no better in california than it is in Paris!
Let's hope all this will end as soon as possible, my pagoda is longing to get out of her garage...
Keep safe!
