My car was “borrowed” by Mercedes Benz yesterday for a photo shoot for the Formula One Grand Prix that starts in Melbourne today. It has appeared on page two in the daily rag this morning.
My car is now in the MB VIP Marque for display for the rest of the GP weekend.
Yesterday’s photo shoot at Port Melbourne Beach. More photos to follow tomorrow from the track.

Very cool, Garry. I have my DVR set to record the race and all the pre race activities. I will keep an eye out for our car. ;)

here is the newspapers bit today.

Outstanding Gary! Wasn't Adelaide the site of the GP years ago? I have been on that coarse with the Rally car.
-
Joe,
Adelaide was where they held the early Modern GP’s for about four years then transferred it to Melbourne which is also a streat course like Adelaide but about 2km from centre of city. Its the 25th GP this year.
The very original GP’s in Australia in the 40’s and 50’s were held at a place called Philip Island about 150km away. They still hold the Open class motor bike GP there.

Seems the GP has been called off.
-
Yep Colin,
Been called off and my car is in the MB Marquee till I can retrieve on Monday. There was a huge crowd at the gates this morning who were all turned away. Disapointing but not unexpected.

Sensational and very cool photos Garry. Great to sea a background I recognise too!

Hi Garry,
Seen a lot of Gpees from Philip Island over the years but
The King of Phillip Island Gp has to be your fellow countryman Casey Stoner. Outstanding skills and
2007 Ducati World champion.
and most successful rider at Phillip I...
-
Marco,
The Phillip Island GP track history is interesting in that it was the original F1 vehicle track way back in the 50’s when Sterling Moss was a champion. Then Australia stopped hosting the GP for nearly 30 years before it came back as an inner city road race in firstly Adelaide then moved to Melbourne to also be an inner city road race around a local lake.
Meanwhile the Phillip Island dedicated race track then won the rights to hold the Motor Cycle GP and Australia has had several top level bike riders (Wayne Gardner and Stoner) over the time it has been operating there. It attracts tens of thousands of fans to the races there each year.

I remember having my hand on your fender right where she was sitting. ( sigh ) Not at the same time though........
-
Garry,
Yes, for sure Wayne Gardner was a great rider, i must have seen all his Gp rides backthen , but in his short GP-career ,Casey must have won all the Philip Island Gp's he took part in.
And you know, every once in a while there is a coming new youngster with extreme talent. Casey was defenitely one of them. ( But, As a Ducati-adept Casey is my all time favorit- so i maybe a bit biased)
At this moment we are ,in our little country blessed with Three of the worlds finest young 2 and 4 wheel talents ; Jeffrey Herlings-MXgp, Matthieu van der Poel-MTB and Max Verstappen-F1.
You just wonder if this is going to happen ever again....
Take care all

Hi Garry,
This is very cool (Pictures of your car with the Lady and the Photoshoot). Too bad that the GP was canceled as you said it is understandable.
I feel honored for having provided safe parking in my building underground parking spot to this fine Pagoda during your 2-day visit last year prior to the Clan II and PagodaFest events. :)

Rolf-Dieter,
I sure got that bucket list drive in at the right time before covid-19 hit. Had a great stay there and welcome by yourself and all the Canadian Pagoda owners around London Ontario.

For sure on that. Glad we had the event last year when it was possible to do it. Hardly seems like it was a year ago but we'll have one again. Too much fun not to.
