Title: New Recreated Data cards
Post by: alpina on March 11, 2020, 16:03:35
For those who are unaware. I am now recreating Data cards to replicate the exact original look of those
Supplied when our cars were new.
Over the past 50+ years many of these cards have been misplaced or lost. This was the fate of the cards for my car.
Contacting MB for a replacement, I received a poor photocopy of the card. Disappointed with this, I set out to produce
New Data cards to exactly replicate the originals.

Research has shown that there were 5 Data cards 3 beige and 2 pink copies. It is unclear whether all 5 cards were supplied
to the customer. But the 5 cards do exist.

Having had numerous enquires from fellow members to recreate their cards, I am now able to recreate Data cards for all
W113 cars 230, 250 & 280SL. (12 different styles / card formats were used from 1963 – 1971)
Cards for W111, W108, W109 and early R107 are also available.

If you are interested you can email me at alpinaltd@aol.com  I would need you to send me the photocopy MB Supply,
this allows me to layout the cards exactly replicating the original. Attached are jpg examples.
More examples can be seen here https://www.facebook.com/MBDatacards   (use email button to contact me.)

I supply the new reproduction Data cards (front and back) as a High resolution PDF file for printing onto card.
The fee for the service is 30 euro  via PayPal.

Best deal on the planet! He made cards for both my 280SE W111 and my '60 220SE W128 coupe. These will make a great addition to the original documentation I have for car shows.

Can you supply this as well?

You would probably need a better quality than what I have...

Ahh, well you beat me to it. You know i can't resist a challange, so i would have done it sooner or later.  attached

The original I have is 8" (20.3cm) x 12-7/8" (32.7cm). Kind of odd sized paper for here in the US. 8-1/2 x 11 won't work. I guess 11 x 17 is the only option and cutting it down. The paper weight feels to be just standard for printing.

FYI......

My guess the odd size is so it can fit in the pouch.

You are in luck. I recreated this a while ago.  I can send the high resolution PDF to an Admin to add to the technical manual
(i don't know how).  It can be added to all the other decals i donated a while ago. I would prefer if it was for Full Members only.
Gives one more small incentive to join as a full member.

best regards

Peter,

Ihave already put his version in the Tech Manual under Electrical, Fuses, but at the same time asked Darren to send me the PDF file so I could put it in the Tech Manual that can be downloaded for printing.

You put it all in there three times, with all slightly different names...  ;) not matching what is in the Wiki text. I fixed it, was an easy fix.

This is wonderful!  I was about to order one from the Classic Center.  Do you know what the differences are?  What all would I need to supply you with?  LOVE this and am very interested.

You will need at least one data card in order to provide the correct information. If you have a card that came with the car, that would be sufficient. Otherwise you will have to get the one from the Classic Center and then send to DM. They are nice indeed.

DM:
From your last post, did I correctly interpret.
I have a recently purchased 1985 300SD and I need a data card.
With my VIN Number you can reproduce a data card.
Let me know.
Tom

For anyone who also owns a “modern classic” I can also recreate data cards for these models.
For any model built after 1981 all you need is the VIN number.

I contacted, purchased ($150 USD) and received a rough .pdf from the MERCEDES BENZ CLASSIC CENTER (classicdatacards@mbusa.com) in December 2020 of my 280SL's data.

I then forwarded that single image file to alpinaltd and within a day he returned fantastic artwork to me replicating the 5 original cards (3 in manila/tan(front and rear) and 2 in pink). Alpinaltd's artwork included the proper fiducial markers for print registration and for cutting from card stock and trimming for both square and radiused corners as indicated.

With his artwork, I had the cards jet printed at Southport Printing on Islington Street in Portsmouth, NH on 271gsm weight stock.

I couldn't be happier with the end product. The level of detail in alpinaltd's work is top notch.
