Title: replace imdocator blinker/flasher unit on 1974 280SE 3.5 RHD
Post by: rutger kohler on February 21, 2020, 23:57:23
Hi, my indicators have suddenly stopped working, the dashboard indicator light gives one pulse and stops.  As both sides have stopped I am thinking it will be the blinker unit itself. I have googled this and there is conflicting information.

On the one hand there seems to be a unit which combines the indicator blinking unit with the hazard lights, and sits behind the hazard switch.  Other sources suggest the indicator flasher unit is separate plse?

If the unit is a c combination, how is it removed from behind the Hazerd switch?

If the indicator blinker unit is separate, where is it located plse?

Rutger,

That depends on the built year of your car.
Since your 3.5 is a 1972
you very likely have got the combined Bosch turnsignal and hazard lights relais
with the Bosch number 0 335 240 002.

There is also an equivalent of SWF available.

Go and get a new "used one" and that should solve the problem.

But first check whether all fuses are still okay.

Good luck !

Hi there, mine is registered in NZ as 1974, but i think would have been built in 1973.  Have data card and build card but not sure where to find build date.
thanks

Na..., Rutger.... :o

It's not important whenever your car was registered for the first time. ???
You have got a 280 SE 3.5, thus a W108 body,
and those were built only until the end of 1972, no longer. :)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W108/W109

Or you have got a W116 built in 1973 or later and then maybe a 350 SE. ???
But a W108 built in 1973 just does not exist.
That is this funny "model year" policy of the US you are getting confused with ...
(any car built between 08/1972 and 07/1973 would be called a "1973").

Whatever you are naming your baby, surely it is NOT a 1974.... :P
and it was actually built no later than 10 or 11/1972.

... and thus we are talking about the same type of turnsignal flasher relais...  ;)

Best,
A.
