Title: Honking Horn Burning Smell
Post by: KerPete on February 11, 2020, 21:29:19
I have a 280sl 1969 that's keeps honking on and off. Mostly on. There is a burning smell coming from under the fuse box area. I'm not sure
if it is a fuse, #2 fuse is missing or wiring. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Disconnect the battery!  Something is grounding out and you don't want to let the smoke out of the wires!  You can remove the fixing screws and pull the fuse box carefully up from the firewall to check for burned/melted insulation on the wiring at the fuse box.  Then check for burned/melted insulation among the bundled wires coming from the steering column.  Check also for burned/melted insulation at all the relays in the engine compartment, and get down under the car to check for burned/melted insulation at the horns.
