Jim,
I believe you are referring to the so called BBB which is the most detailed one. There is also a Haynes manual available. A German version of the BBB is available online. See below.
(I think The BBB is the best)

You need that book.  Watch ebay for a while.  Sometimes they come up cheap.  I was selling mine for $99 each in good condition but ran out except for the set I'm keeping (I had been collecting them for unknown reasons...)

Hi,
here you find a lot of information online: https://mercedesclubs.de/anleitungen.
E.g.
- https://vdhflipbooks.de/books/WHB/WHB-ab-1968/
- https://vdhflipbooks.de/books/WHB/WAB-Modelle1972-80-E/
- https://vdhflipbooks.de/books/WHB/OwnersWorkshopManual/

A word of caution about the BBB:
If you are looking to get condensed and specific, precise information for a specific model, the BBB is NOT the place to look for. Many, many service issues and details are actually hidden in consolidated info for many models. It takes an experienced expert like Joe Alexander (thanks Joe!) to tell you where to look in that book.
Also, these books, like almost all manufacturer issued service manuals are written to support the factory dealer mechanic, who went through quite extensive OEM training. A lot of techniques and methods are not explained because they are considered specific mechanics skills. Any hobby wrencher may be better off with a specific service manual for his/her model by Haynes or else.
Just my opinion and experience.

I can't disagree with what you've said but I will add that one has to go backwards through older factory manuals to find specific information in many cases. As an example, you are expected to know how piston rings are mounted and that info is not contained in the BBB. You have to go back to the 190 workshop manual to find that.

Excellent WRe, I've added this to the Tech Manual in the BBB section.
I do hope VDH as a german club has obtained permission from Daimler Benz to publish this.... otherwise they won't be there for long!

I bought a BBB a long time ago, but have never once used it. Too cumbersome as others have described. I have used the Haynes manual, but mostly I use this site (forums, technical manual).

I have several publications from the VDH and it says right on them: "In cooperation with Daimler Benz"
