Hello All,
I have seen a few threads on the color and stone chip for the under body. I decided not to remove all the stone chip from the underside since, it is in very good condition and just needs a clean up. Two questions?
1. Is there a beige paint that someone has used to give the factory look. i was thinking of painting it the color of the car (DB50 - white) but thinking against it.
2. There are a few scuffed areas i need to do some minor touch up repair of the stone chip. Which Wurt product will work or is there another product recommended?

My car was similar just needing touch up in a few areas rather than stripping and recoating, however there was no way I could touch it up to look original so I refinisged the underside the best I could.
The entire body or our cars were originally painted in a grey/green primer which you can closely replicate with a grey PPG primer ( I will get you the number). The under-bodies were then partially covered with a tan Body Shutz on the floor pans and the transmission tunnel up by the engine. The wheel wells were then shot in the body color and a significant amount of body color overspray landed on the underside when the rocker panels were sprayed. A yellowish/orange wax call cosmoline was then sprayed on the bottom of the car turning darker brown over time as it got dirty.
3m makes a body shutz similar to the original tan used by MB. I found a paint called "quazmoline" (you can google the name to find it) that seemed to do a nice job replicating the original look of cosmoline before it got dirty with time.
I will take a few shots of how mine turned out and post them tomorrow.

Thank you for the information. would appreciate the paint code for PPG. Car is about to be painted on the underside.

PPG DP40LF is the gray/green that most use to match the primer color. You would use DP402LF for the catalyst. There are many colors in that line 90 - black, 48 is white, 50 is grey, etc.....

DP40LF and U-Pol Raptor bed liner. The Raptor is tintable to match. After looking at quite a few cars. There is quite a range of colors on the undercoat from white to grey and beige. Mine was almost white.
I almost hate to admit this but I bought about 8 different undercoating materials and 3 different spray guns. In terms of matching the original the Raptor was the best by far. It was the only one I could get the thickness and texture out of. Any air dried product I tried dried down so much I couldn't get a good buildup. Add to that it is Catalyzed and won’t slough off if you ever have a fuel leak and it is dynamite stuff.

I sprayed U-Pol Gravitex HS Stone Chip Protector. It was recommended and discussed here in the forum at one point. It is paintable and sprayed with a special (non expensive) gun, straight out of the bottles.
Looks very similar to the above pics. Like it a lot.

A few pics of my results below. The first one is after having cleaned and scrubbed the original undercoating and then spraying DP40 where paint/Primer was visable originally. The second is after spraying the 3mm body Shultz which is similar in color to the original shultz. The third picture is after spraying "quazmoline" meant to imitate the look of the original clean cosmoline. The last is with my overspray from spraying the body color on the rocker panels.
I will be honest that doing it this way is a bit expensive (I think the DP 40 alone was almost $100 a quart) and doesn't look as nice as when you spray the entire underside with the body color. Nobody really looks underneath the car once its put together anyways, even the judges. I guess its just the fun of trying to make it look like new, or some other crazy reason.

This is one of the questions I plan to discuss with Brian Peters from MotoringInvestments this Friday at Pagoda Fest. He is slated as one of the presenters. He has focused on this issue on some of his documented restorations and presented different results. I am curious to know what his opinion is now and how he replicates what he believes is correct. This issue has been reviewed in numerous threads on this site but I feel there has never been an absolute consensus.

Thanks Everyone. Hope to get the undercoat tomorrow and get goin going on this. I am so tempted to spray a single stage same as the color of the car and be done with it...DB50 white.
