Our 1964 230SL #000249 is on its way to Belgium to be auctioned by Bonhams. Raced in the Vaals hillclimb back in 1963 by Dutch Grand Prix driver Carel Godin de Beaufort.

So cool to have that racing history!

And that history had been lost until we rediscovered it less than two years ago. It was thrilling to find, like discovering the lost tomb of Tutankhamun! (Okay, that's exaggerating a little).

How long did you have this car? I guess you have motivation to sell this unique car?

We bought it from a longtime owner in N. Carolina a few years ago. Carel de Beaufort is a well known figure in Holland, considered the first Dutch Grand Prix racer. Here he is not nearly as well known. But it has been great fun to learn about his career and life, he owned and raced some incredible cars, and was quite a character. Died from an accident in his Porsche 718 during practice for the German GP at Nurburgring in 1964. Website about him created by Dutch historians:
