Hello everyone,
My name is Juan and I am one of the guys behind CLASSIC.COM — we recently added the W113 to our classic car market analytics platform, and I thought that this would be the perfect place to get feedback on it.

Welcome to the site. I like the format for your data. It is easy to navigate and interesting supporting data.
You may want to revisit your production numbers for all three models, 230, 250 and 280. It would appear you have listed car volumes exported to the US, not total production.
Total production numbers can be found in the technical section under data cards, etc.

I believe the reference in the technical manual is to Engelen, whose book, Mercedes-Benz 190 SL - 280 SL is a pretty good source.

Good format, like it a lot.
Interesting looking at the average prices paid.
230SL 16 sales average $47.69K
250SL 06 sales average $82.32K
280SL 28 sales average $78.36K
The 250 is top dog based on these figures, interesting.

I can't figure out how to see any photos of this champion but from the one cover shot it appears the rear is sagging. Surely not at that price. Seems like the seller got lucky as there were bidders that "just had to have this baby".

I like the format of the site.
Having just done a visit to the RM Restoration workshop and seen what they do to restore their cars, and if this car below had been through their workshop, then the owner will be making a loss on that sale. I will also note that my past own 280sl 5 speed rhd sold again earlier this year for more than that price.

The posted link to the Sotheby’s auction on this car in a parallel thread opened but could not be navigated on my device to see individual pictures. I opened the Sotheby’s site in another window and could see the thumbnails but could still not open them individually. It would appear that this car is similar to the ones restored and advertised for sale in this price range by the Classic Center. A ton of money and effort has been expended but the end result is still not 100% as original.
Seems like the seller got lucky as there were bidders that "just had to have this baby".

The 71 280 sold so high because there were 2 people in the room willing to pay 60K more than it was worth. Good restoration but not perfect by any stretch. Wrong valve cover etc etc.

Prices for high end oldtimers are going down fast:
"The 2019 Monterey Classic Car Auctions wrapped up Saturday evening with total preliminary sales of only $245.5 million, a reduction of 34 percent compared with the 2018 overall results."
The only up market was for cars in the +/-$60K range.

Prices seem to retract right before a recession and seem to peek a little after the drop. Well chosen collectible cars are known to be a better investment than treasuries in a sluggish economy.
