For those coming from the East, such as Toronto, Montreal, or the Niagara region, Hugh plans on having a nice meal at the London Club on Friday night for Pagoda owners. Other cars would also be welcomed and I think he may have a place lined up for accommodations as well. I will ask him to post his info in this thread so anyone who might be interested can find out more about this event. Hugh has taken over for Dieter and we would certainly hope that fellow owners support his worthy efforts on Friday evening, August 23rd.

I believe I will be attending Hugh's event so if anyone coming from the West wants to follow along with me we can leave from my place mid afternoon that day. I will be returning home that evening and you can either stay in London that night with other fellow pagoda owners or return to my area and stay overnight closer to my place and Saturday's events.

Hi Dan,

You may have gotten the date wrong. I was thinking of the Thursday August 22, 2019 to meet at the Steve Plunket Estate. Meeting at a designated spot like a Tim Hortons near by would be great then together drive into Steve’s Golf course were he has open house for cars from around the London area. As you know every Thursday during the Summer Steve opens his Golf course to cars for a Oldtimer car show ... I’ve seen as many as 300 cars there. I’ve been going to those shows for the past 3 years since I live only 15 minutes from the golf Couse.

The entry fee is up to the individual I normally I pay 3 to 5 dollars, all is for charity.

Steve has his main event is in June I will include the link here to give individuals an idea of the location ....

——> http://fleetwoodcountrycruizein.com/

My thinking here was drivers coming from the east, of London Ontario can attend the Thursday night car show at Steve Plunket’s Golf course. Let there wives do some shopping (should they not be interested in cars), then treat there wife’s f=to a nice dinner. Friday sleep in follow by a nice breakfast or brunch at the hotel (Hugh would organize that part unless the indevidusls like to do so themselves). It be noon by then and time for a drive around old London Town .... followed by a drive out to Dan’s Benz Barn for Dan’s planned activities. It sure would be great to cruse onto Steve’s Golf Course with several Pagodas (Corvettes, Cadillac's and several other Oldtimer model cars do it all the time.

I know Hugh will open a thread providing details.

Dieter

Title: Re: Meeting of the Clans II - Proposed London Club dinner event
Post by: Hugh on April 26, 2019, 02:48:28
As a member I looked into the London Club  ( www.londonclub.com ) hosting a dinner event for Clan 2 "east" on Fri Aug 23rd at 5:45pm. It would include baby gem romaine salad, Miso glazed salmon or beef tenderloin au poivre cognac cream sauce, Caramel crunch cheesecake. Plus coffee & tea . All service charges, gratuity & taxes $83.33 Canadian each person.

Based on Dieter's idea I could look into doing the dinner after Steve Plunket's Thurs Aug 22nd event that would push the dinner later & might reduce preferred parking options. Or we could do both Thurs car show and the dinner Friday?

Once we get consensus on the best date for the dinner, we would get payment say by July 1st to confirm your spot.

FAQ; Dress is smart casual . Guests can run their own bar tabs and pay by credit card. We could get some cones out to reserve spots for our cars at the front of the club's smaller lot.

Let’s talk about Distance ...

Garry will be traveling thousands of KM first across the Pacific then all the way from the US West Coast to Ontario.

Tom will be traveling all the way from the province of Quebec some almost 11 hours and over 1,000 KM to attend.

John will be traveling all the way from Ottawa, Ontario some 7 hours & 30 minutes and 749 KM to attend

Joe will be traveling all the way from Blacklick, OH some 5 hours and 450  KM to attend.

Of course the price will be first of all for us to get together for our site here is first and foremost about people and not only about our cars. I can say this having attended 3 PUB sessions (2013, 2015 and 2017), 1 Anniversary our 50st in Virginia in 2013 and 2 European Events one in 2017 the Mosel Tour and last September the Euro Event in France. The icing on the cake will be once one or two of our cars makes it up on Dan’s lift in the Benz Barn and both Joe and Dan share there combined over 70 years expertise with us like they always do when we get together, thst is just priceless.

I include the maps of the distances I mentioned and issue the following challenge to both American and Canadian Members...

Have a look at the maps do you live within the areas of the maps. ... come and join us it will be fun and educational

Thanks for having this get together.
I plan to attend and will be coming alone from Fredericton NewBrunswick.
If possible I could meet some members on route and travel the last few km together as we did in Charleston

Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Thanks for your support and making the long trip.

Frank is coming a long way also, all most 16 hour drive at 1645 KM. Frank, Peter (PJ) and myself meet at my house in 2011 and went on to Dan’s Benz Ban we’re we started our trip down to Virginia to attend the 50 year anniversary of the Pagoda. Peter could not come along, he had other commitments. It was a nice drive with some exciting moments (we won’t talk about it here) :)

It will be nice to see you again Frank, drive safely.

Dieter

PS. Note Frank has a vacant passenger seat, look at the map Members in the area perhaps you like to get a lift and help Frank drive. :) Garry Marks and I shared a Pagoda last September / October last year (you may have read Garry’s story in PW issue). It’s always nice to share a drive and the cost now that our Canadian Gas prices have been increased.

Activities in London before the Clans II Meeting at SL Barn

As you know Dan Caron and Family will be hosting the Clans II Meeting Saturday, August 24 & Sunday August 25, near Port Lambton at SL Barn. For address and planned activities please see this link here;

——> https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=29010.0

As you can see from the above link and a previous one, several individuals already have expressed interest for attending. We would like to find out how many will actually attend so plans can be finalized.

We came up with some ideas to make it more interesting. London, Ontario is about 1 and 1/2 hour drive from Dan Caron’s SL Barn. You may have seen Rolf-Dieter’s thread about the car show held every Thursday at Steve Plunkett's home near us; if not let me know and I will provide information below. The Clans II event can be just the Saturday and Sunday as planned by Dan Caron, or if you decide you can join for the car show on Thursday afternoon and some sightseeing in London, Ontario on Friday then join for the Friday dinner at the London Club (Details below).

Thursday August 22, 2019

Every Thursday's afternoon during the summer months there is a car show taking place on the Steve Plunkett Golf course estate. About 200 to 300 cars attend of different makes and models (depending on the weather). The show normally starts at 5pm and ends around 8pm. There are reasonably priced hotels / motels and B&B’s available in the London, Ontario area (we will make recommendations later for accommodations). At the car show there are food stands where reasonable snacks can be purchased. Also a well known "Little Beaver" restaurant a few minutes away for a full meal.

Our thinking for adding the car show is it would be great to roll in there all together from different locations in Canada, the US, and even Garry Marks from Australia, (Garry is taking his Pagoda on a "incredible" North America road trip before ending up at the Pagodafest in California). We are confident that all that decide to join for the car show will enjoy the variety of cars that are on display. Showing up with more then 3 Pagodas will be a first to say the least. After a long drive some of you are undertaking, it be nice to arrive around noon, relax a bit after checking into your accommodations, then join us for the car show. We will provide a meeting point at a Tim Horton's coffee shop some 10 minutes from the golf course so that we can all drive together to the car show and all park in the same place. The car show is a charity event so it is up to you what you drop into the box as there is no set entry price.

Friday August 23, 2019

We thought it would be nice to organize a dinner at the London Club.  At 5:30pm I see us meeting at the Club front parking lot where I will try to have spots held for as many of our classic cars as possible. Some chatting, have a drink in the lounge, and then a nice dinner at 6:30pm.  I have listed all the meal, costs, & other details in another thread in this post. My membership mentor, Dieter, said it will be easiest to use PayPal to pay to hold your spot for dinner. Let me know & I'll confirm how it is done.

Anyone wanting suggestions of things to do in London, let us know. Lots to do!

Now that I'm pretty sure my car can make the trip:

I plan to attend, with my 68 Pagoda. I'm thinking only option C as I may not be able to make the time for A and B.

Dan, is there something I can do to help out with arrangements?

I prepared the attached file that has all the attendees that have expressed interest on this thread. We could use this for keeping track of who's coming. I have an excel file but not able to upload it, so I'm uploading the pdf.

Thanks for making the return trip back to my place and thanks also putting that list together. As we draw closer to our event, I may need some help so I will reach out if I need to. We are quickly reaching the pagoda numbers of 13 years ago which I think were 14 cars. Remember, this is an event open to all MB cars and I also expect some American iron as well.

Thanks for your support Joe. For those who may not know, Joe and I go back a long ways to about 1980 when he did the frame and floors on a very rusty 190SL I once owned. I think we finally met in person in 2007 at one of his PUB events.

Looking forward to having you over. Are you bringing Jacob?

Hi everyone,
Dan and his staff have worked over the winter to put our 230SL back together. This week they were able to take the car for a little ride, and they made a video. The video also shows the old school we will be using for the Meeting of the Clans II, in the background, and the property fairly well. (Even though it's a short video, the file is far too large to upload to the sl113.org server.) Watch the video at

Hi Tom,

If I would be traveling from the east to London for an afternoon meet (like our plan is for the car show), I would be searching for a nice B&B just outside London. I like to stay at B&B’s primarily since it offers secure parking.

I made a search for you at Zeelandia, on check it out  (once the site opens, you find prices at the very end).

https://www.google.ca/travel/hotels/b%26B%20405229%20Beaconsfield%20Road%2C%20Norwich%2C%20ON/entity/CgsIjoXUoufqvJWnARAB/photos?g2lb=4207876%2C4208993%2C4215767%2C4223281%2C4242898%2C4252383%2C4253230%2C4254308%2C4258168%2C4260036%2C4260580%2C4250437%2C4253015&hl=en&gl=ca&un=1&q=b%26B%20405229%20Beaconsfield%20Road%2C%20Norwich%2C%20ON&rp=OAJAAEgB&ictx=1&ved=2ahUKEwibwrX_2oniAhXrkOAKHabrC_4Q3z56BAgVEAA&hrf=KhYKBwjjDxAFGBMSBwjjDxAFGBQYASgA&tcfs=EhoaGAoKMjAxOS0wNS0xORIKMjAxOS0wNS0yMFIA

I would do the same checks just west of London after the dinner on Friday or simply return the short distance East to Zeelandia.

I believe Hugh will be posting some hotels as well in London that would have secure parking.

Dieter

Hi Tom; A short 10 min drive from the London Club and downtown is a nice historic hotel with exterior free parking called the Idlewyld Inn & Spa (ranked #1 hotel in Tripadvisor) link for more details     https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g154995-d5986398-Reviews-Idlewyld_Inn_Spa-London_Ontario.html

Several hotels downtown that are good, but parking is often in attached parking garages that would have an extra charge. If you have any questions, let me know, Hugh

Hi Hugh and Rolf-Dieter,
Thank you for the recommendations for lodging.  I just booked rooms for My nephew and me in London at the Idlewyld Inn for Thursday and Friday and at the Days Inn in Wallaceburg for Saturday and Sunday.
I know we will have plenty of time at the Thursday car show to plan something for Friday before the London Club, but for sure, since my wife doesn't want to go, it won't be shopping.
I assume meeting places and times will be planned.
It looks like We will be leaving Quebec at about 7:00 am on Thursday to drive to London.  Meet-ups will be possible so long as we don't lose too much time.

I have just added a new stop for Sunday's events. We are now able to take a private tour of RM Restorations near Chatham Ontario. RM Sotheby's is now the largest auto auction house of high end specialty cars in the world and we will be able to see some of the cars in storage or being worked on. RM closed their doors to public tours a few years ago so don't miss this rare opportunity to see their facilities.

Good afternoon. I am thinking about traveling to the Meeting of the Clans from southwest GA. May not have the time to drive. Anyone have an extra seat in case I fly and my girlfriend doesn't come (LOL)?

Hi James

Should you fly into London, Ontario I have a passenger seat open in my 280SL. So I could pick you up for the car show on Thur. aug. 22 and again on Fri. 23 for the dinner then Saturday morning Aug 24 and take you to the Benz Barn including drives on on Saturday and Sunday. Only on Sunday we will end up half way between London and Port Lampton (our itinerary of events 22 to 25 will be issues soon). So on Sunday i shall head back to London Ontario. If your fliegt to go home is from London, i’ll Be happy to take you back to your hotel in London as well.

On the other hand should you travel to Port Lampton and stay in a local hotel, you can still ride with me (except for the Sunday back to Port Lampton or your hotel, since I shall be heading back to London).

As Dan said we can work it out, for it’s not only about cars its’s also and foremost about people :)

Cheers,

Dieter

I was at the Country Cruse Car Show on Sunday and on the way out I saw Steve Plunkett. I talked to him about our Thursday, August 22, 2019 plan to drop in on the Thursday Country Cruse and what the chances would be for several Pagoda owners to visit his Special Cadillac collection. I told him there be several Members of our Group from Ontario and other Provinces as well as one Member from Australia.

Steve gave me his business card and said “Call me about a week before”

Let’s keep our fingers crossed we might be treated to some extra special cars. I shall follow up with Steve.

Steve opens his estate/golf course every Thursday during the summer for a charity car show depending on the weather 200 to 300 cars of all sort of makes can be seen from Ontario or the USA.

Hello Dan,
I plan on attending while visiting my hometown Cleveland ,Ohio.  I told a friend of mine about my plans and he wondered if he can join me for my first visit to the London. Canada area.  All I hear about Ontario is its beauty.  Not upset about Raptors even tough I live near the Warriors.   Santa Rosa, Ca.   As of now i have 2 rooms at the Days Inn you suggested earlier.  Besides the 15.00 at the barn is there any other requirement.

Hello Dan,
I plan on attending while visiting my hometown Cleveland ,Ohio.

Any meals we have during our driving around the area is up to you. I decided to have everyone order from the menu rather than setting up prepared meals. The $15.00 dollar fee is for Saturday afternoon at my place which will provide you with soft drinks, coffee, and relish trays. I'm looking into getting some musicians for Saturday night but that's not a definite yet. I find most people want to turn in early after a days driving and looking at cars so I'll try to have things wrapped up by 9:00 PM Saturday night.

We will need to start fairly early on Sunday morning so that we can be at RM Restoration by 10:00 AM  We can meet at a restaurant in nearby Wallaceburg around 8:00 - 8:30 AM. Drive to RM is about  35 - 40 minutes from there.

Raptors win was nice for them and the city of Toronto. I normally never watch basketball but I did watch most of those games which were interesting. You will find my area of Ontario to be a combination of small towns, a few larger cities, and miles and miles of farm land. My place is a working farm with fields surrounding the shop and other buildings. The drive to Sarnia will be nice as we will be driving along the St. Clair river and through the petrochemical operations just south of the city. The twin bridges at the mouth of the river are quite nice to see and further up is Lake Huron. If we are lucky we might get to see a lake freighter going under the bridge. The river is quite narrow at this point and you can see them from close up so bring your cameras.

I talked to the Starlight Casino in Sarnia yesterday and it looks like that is where we will be going to dinner on Saturday night. They have a patio which is covered and it's right on the St. Clair River so we will be able to watch lake freighters and Ocean going ships as the move up and down the river. Food looked great with a nice casual atmosphere.

I've been waiting to comment, hoping that my back and hamstring/Knee tendons will reach a point where I can sit in a car for more than 30 minutes.  As many of you know, Last fall i had both knees replaced, and have run into some collateral issues with my back and leg muscles, as dragging my left knee around for 30 years (and perhaps too much wine) caused some issues with my gait.  So insert new knee and my other leg didn't like it.  Learning to walk again the right way.  Physical Therapy twice a week and deep tissue massages weekly have got me almost fixed, but not sure if I can handle 10 hours in the car yet.  Driving high on Oxycontin might get me in trouble with the RCMP.

So I may be a late registrant.  Lets hope my Russian Therapist can work some magic soon.

Can you fly in? There are local regional airports and Detroit is about a 2 hour drive from my place. Sarnia has an airport but I'm not sure if international flights go there or not. It's only a half hour from my place.

Get well and see what happens.

I realize many of us have committed to the weekend so my questions is, is there an registration that needs to be completed and are there monies that need to be paid for dinners etc? I have 2 different hotels booked, one in London Friday night and the other in Wallaceburg for Saturday so let us know what else is required please.
Title: Re: Meeting of the Clans II
Post by: Benz Dr. on July 25, 2019, 06:27:56
There is a 15 dollar charge for Saturday at my place when you register with your car. This will give you water, tea, coffee, soft drinks and snack trays all day long. We have all that and portable wash rooms to cover as expenses. There is a wash room in the old school house that will be using. My intentions for the weekend is for it to be very casual so wear jeans, shorts or whatever you like. There are lots of large trees on the property so you will be able to sit in the shade or sun if you like. The main property covers about 5 acres so there's lots of room to park. I also have a water hydrant at my courtyard if you need anything like that.

Your meal will be paid for when you leave the casino Saturday night. You will be on your own for Sunday morning breakfast but we can meet at the Black Goose in downtown Wallaceburg if you like. The town's population is about 11,000 so it's not too hard to find things there.
RM restoration is no charge to us ( I have friends in high places ) and you will be ordering off of the menu at the Bayside Brewery in Erieau. They can seat about 30 people on their patio and about the same amount in an inside room if it rains. There is also extra room further inside should there be any overflow.

I decided quite a while ago that it would be easier to not have a dedicated sit down meal and that ordering what you want from their menu might be better value. They also have some pretty decent craft beers, or so I'm told.

I have a hotel near wallaceburg for both Friday and saturday night, yet I would like to join the clan for dinner in London Friday night. Is London far from Wallaceburg or should I move my Friday night stay to london?
also I am not familiar with the size of London, is there a particular area that ai should look for a hotel in?

Title: Re: Meeting of the Clans II
Post by: Benz Dr. on July 26, 2019, 04:48:22
London is about an hour and a half drive from Wallceburg so you might want to consider a room in London for Friday. London is a fairly large city of maybe 250,000 so there are lots of places to stay. You might want to try finding a place on Wellington St. which will take you to the down town core area. There are also some places right down town London that you could look for. Peter, Hugh or Dieter can help you out on that more than I can as they all live there.

I was told that there's still some rooms available at the Wallaceburg motel so anyone looking for a nearby place should contact them. My farm is about 9 miles from town.

Hi John,

As Dan pointed out you should stay in London on Friday night if you wish to attend the Friday Night  dinner. If you are driving your Pagoda my recommendation would be to stay at a B&B I prefer it for myself since in most cases it has secure parking and I find I sleep better :)

London Ontario Population was 405,000 in 2017.

I would say the south side which is close to highway 401. Dieter may have a better idea for you but that's probably going to be fairly handy. I believe the convention center which is right down town is also a good choice.

Hi John,

I phoned this hotel ——> https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/yxuri-residence-inn-london-downtown/?scid=bb1a189a-fec3-4d19-a255-54ba596febe2

It is within walking distance of the London Club. Now this hotel is downtown as is the London Club. The hotel has safe underground parking at an additional charge of $15- all prices are in Canadian dollars.

PM me and let me know if you prefer to stay at a B$B and if you are driving your Pagoda. Hugh has plans to secure parking spaces in front of the London Club (for a photo op), also I think he will make arrangements to have the cars watched while we are having dinner.

2 images attached one of the London Club and another to the hotel.

SORRY about that oversight, I should have added my email address.  It is...  rawling@rogers.com   PLEASE NOTE; When paying with PayPal please pay from your bank account or Paypal cash in your acct & then no fees.  If you pay using credit or debit card they charge me fees. Thx

I was at the London Club this  Wed. and I heard that someone called there to pay. They don't take the money for this event. I do and then they bill me as the member. Again, sorry about the confusion and to compensate I suggest we move our deadline to book for the dinner to August 16th, 1 week before the event. Looking forward to the seeing you there... Hugh

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is south of Hamilton, more than an hour's drive east of London. See
www.warplane.com

Meanwhile, London has the Jet Aircraft Museum, located at YXU, our international airport. See
https://webmaster8001.wixsite.com/jetaircraftmuseum

I can help guide anyone who wants to visit those museums, but it's not part of our regular plans for the weekend.

There is also a submarine on exhibit at Port Burwell. See
http://www.hmcsojibwa.ca/
This would be a worthy destination for the Friday drive.

Title: Final Update for Thursday August 22, 2019 for the Steve Plunkett Car Show.
Post by: Rolf-Dieter ✝︎ on August 15, 2019, 19:56:16
This is a Final Update for Thursday August 22, 2019 for the Steve Plunkett Car Show.

We like to drive together to the Steve Plunkett Golf Course Estate. To this end I like to have an update as to how many of you are going to attend. I need to know this so that we can wait for you before we leave the assembly area at the Coffee Shop Tim Horton.

The Assembly address is: 925-975 Southdale Road London, Ontario                                                                                                                                                                   Time of Assembly:  17;00 to 17:15 (5 pm to 5:15 pm).
Steve Plunkett’s Address: 9282 Elviage Drive. London, Ontario

See  map map attached (in case you miss us leaving). As we leave Tim Horton we will turn left (in the westerly direction on to Southdale Road. Don’t worry if you cannot follow the car in front of you due to traffic. The lead car will stop along the road side once we pass the 2nd traffic light until we are all together again. The objective here is to arrive all together at the Plunkett Estate, let us see if we can manage to accomplish this.

As I mentioned earlier I spoke to Steve Plunkett on June 2 when he had his last complete car show (country cruse this year again there where close to 3,000 cars during the 2 day event). Steve still makes his golf course available for car shows during the summer months on Thursdays. When I talked to Steve in June I mentioned to him that we plan to attend the August 22 car show with 8 to 10 Pagodas. I asked him what the chances are to see his Private collection at that time. He said to call him the week before. So I called him today his first reaction was that he no longer gives private tours. After talking to him some more about where the cars are all from (as far as Australia, Ohio, Michigan, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario, etc), he said to give him a call on Wednesday next week. I will do that, it looks like the possibility to see his private collection is not completely dead. I shall keep my fingers crossed.

So please let me know by posting below or let me have a PM if you are attending the Thursday August 22, 2019 car show. Snacks and cold drinks are available at very reasonable prices on site as well as music from the 60s :)

Thanks for reading,

Dieter

NOTE; For those indeviduals attending the Friday Night Dinner refer also to the post above this post from Hugh B. For Details

I'm hoping to go on Thursday night next week. I found that I was going to have early arrivals on Friday so not being here was not an option.

Steve is a good guy and very generous with his time. I met him several years ago when he was designing his grand salon and I've remained very casually acquainted with him. His collection is really impressive.

Hello everyone,
Hugh and Dieter and Dan have helped finalize our Program Guide for the Meeting of the Clans. It's attached here as a PDF file for all to see. I'm sure its not so lavish as what the PagodaFest folks have planned, but I think we're going to have a good time here this weekend. The weather forecast looks quite promising!

Opening of the Meeting of the Clans was Thursday afternoon (August 22). We met at a nearby coffee shop and followed a short but pleasant route to the Plunkett Estate for the regular "Cruize Night" event that is organized by a local service club. The photo here shows Garry's car, then Dieter's and Hugh's, with Dan's "Red Rocket" at the end of the line. As the Sun set and the beautiful blue sky turned to twilight, the host of the estate, Steve Plunkett, invited a handful of enthusiasts in to view the best of his collection. Mostly he specializes in Cadillacs, but tonight's feature was a unique 1956X Buick Century. Tom and Christian drove all the way from Quebec City and arrived in time to see Steve's collection, too. Afterward, we retired to a coffee shop and chatted for a while.

More to come tomorrow.

Saturday was a glorious day in southwestern Ontario. About 15 Pagodas and a dozen other Mercedes showed up at Dan's workshop for the Gathering of the Clans II. After a busy afternoon of admiring each other's projects, we drove up to a restaurant in Sarnia, which is on the Canadian side, right at the southern tip of Lake Huron, for dinner. I made a video of the convoy turning the corner on to the St Clair River Parkway, which you can see here...

After that, many returned to Dan's workshop for a little more conversation. The photo shows some of the folks as the evening was winding down. Most of the Pagodas were outside in the dark. That's our 230SL with the hood off, and a couple of 190SLs behind.

It's rare to have such a run of great weather in southwestern Ontario, but Sunday was just as lovely as the previous days of the Gathering of the Clans II. We met for a special private tour through the workshops of RM Restorations near Chatham. Needless to say, there were some impressive vehicles under restoration -- three Ferraris, a Lamborghini, a Bugatti, something from 1915, and even a 1970s Camaro. RM also has a large warehouse where cars wait -- to be sold, to be purchased, to be shipped, whatever. Quite a variety of neat vehicles there, too.

A group photo was taken, which is attached here. We arranged the visiting Pagodas in a line for another photo, also attached. As everyone peeled out, I made a video, which you can watch by clicking here...

And I found your fold up chair. There is one chair left - a brown one. Do you remember who was sitting near you?

I also found the lens out of a pair of eye glasses in case anyone lost one.

We are very happy with the turn out and how everything fell into place. Perfect weather didn't hurt us either.

The most amazing cars (in my opinion) at RM Restorations were the Alfa Romeo BAT cars. Built as show cars, one was built in each of '53, '54 and '55. They were enormously influential in car design and had some of the lowest drag coefficients of any care built.

All have the same owner. The guy from RM estimated their collective worth as $25-35 million USD. A truly awesome sight!

Hi Dan,

Believe it or not, the chair and lenses are both mine; a testament to my forgetfulness. You can dispose of the lenses---I'm about to get new glasses anyhow---and keep the chair for next time you need to relax.

I'd like to add my thanks to you and Shelley for hosting a wonderful weekend. Thanks also to whoever placed the request for great weather. It was real nice seeing everyone.

The plastic hammer did not do the job as Joe wants the work done right.
The steel hammer one try sorted out the problems.

I second -- or twelveteenth -- that!  My car and I were captured and put up in nice rooms of our own, not released until wined, dined and some things a fancy restoration shop (in Virginia) had missed or fumbled in recent major repairs were located and set right.  We put a year's usual mileage under the wheels on the round trip, rolled the speedo over 100,000 miles on the way back and enjoyed the whole thing.  Met some folks I very much enjoy knowing, too.

Much thanks, Shelley and Dan ...... and all the Clan folk.

Wow, it has already been 13 days since the end of Meeting of the Clans II, and I'm just getting around to posting my comments and thanks.

Christian Beaudoin, my nephew, and I spent Sunday night at the Idlewyld Inn and Spa instead of another night at the Days Inn.  It should have saved us an hour and a half on Monday (i wish).  Even though we took the 407 and lost no time to traffic around Toronto, Montreal was a killer at dinner time.  It took us an extra three hours to get through Montreal - 15 hours from London to Quebec City.

Starting the trip with approximately only 80 km on the new restoration, Chris and I added another 2,747 km in the five days to, at and from Meeting of the Clans II.  We had two frightening experiences that we thought was threatening to leave us a thousand km from home with a broken car.  Firstly, the left front tire, wheel, bearing or brake started screeching when the suspension got warm.  It sounded like a disaster was about to happen.  It continued throughout the trip and only stopped when I "touched" the brake pedal.
Secondly, on almost every start, there was another screeching that took a few seconds to stop.  This time, it was a belt.  When we left home, the belts were new and tight.  By the time we had added a thousand km, the 55 amp alternator - water pump belt had stretched enough to screech on start up.

We made it home safely although nervous, and I havent touched the car until today.

Anyway, it was a wonderful trip for both Christian and me and we thoroughly enjoyed everyone we met.  We want to thank you all for making our trip a memorable one, and especially Dan and Shelley, pj and Diane, Hugh and Dorli as well as Rolf-Dieter.

You all made it an extremely interesting and educational trip.

Thank you all and best wishes and happy cruising for the rest of the summer.

I really liked your car and thought your consul treatment was done first class. It looks like something MB may have done had they keep producing the pagoda well into the 70's. No - I take that back. They wouldn't have done it as well as your car looks.

I enjoyed talking with Christian - interesting guy.

Very glad you made it all the way to my place and we are pleased that you enjoyed your brief stay in our little part of the world.

Glad you made it back OK.

Almost got nailed for speeding in your car - not used to the 3.46 and was watching the tach and not so much a normally quiet road.  Looked up and there he was, slowed almost to a stop but he didn't turn around and follow me. Oh well...........eh?

Nice having you over. Hope you liked the smoothie.

No one gets to see the inside of RM anymore. We were lucky enough to have a direct connection through one of my customers so it was pretty easy for us to put that together. Definitely the highlight of the tour.
