Title: Wiring Harness for 230SL From Autosparks - To Buy or not to Buy?
Post by: Pawel66 on November 22, 2018, 22:41:18
I wanted to kindly ask for your opinions on the wiring harnesses from Autosparks.

I found just two posts about it - one sharing information about availabilty and another one saying it comes without the connectors, rather positive.

A friend of mine is restoring a 230SL and I wanted to fill him in with some information from the forum.

Maybe one more point: in Autosparks catalogue we have harnesses for 64-65 years and another one 66-67 year.

I do not see a difference in the EPC. Where these harnesses different between years?

The thing about new a wiring harness is all the work you'll need to do to get it ready to install. From what I've seen, they come ready to install but you will need to solder every single pin onto the new ends. This means removing all of the old connectors and moving everything from the old harness to the new one. This is a LOT more work than you might imagine.

We restored an old harness by fixing the broken connectors and bad wiring then we found some large shrink wrap to fix all of the old coverings. Probably costs about half as much as it would have with the new harness and hours of labor to change everything over. I knew that the old harness was fully functional so we were starting with a known quantity.
