Title: PagodaFest - up and running!
Post by: Jonny B on November 16, 2018, 22:47:42
To all - The PagodaFest website has launched!! It will be the main forum for information on the event.

PagodaFest is a two-day event to celebrate all things Pagoda. This combination of technical time and social time is scheduled for 4, 5 October 2019 (with an informal meet and greet on Thursday, 3 October). Get ready to enjoy the learning, the meeting, the fun, and the sun along the Pacific coast.

The informal social time on the evening of 3 October is slated to be held at the Karl Strauss brewery adjacent to the Grand Pacific Palisades, our event hotel.

On Friday, 4 October, we will be staged in the wonderful gardens of the Flower Fields of Carlsbad. Here, we enjoy technical sessions, a PagodaFest Market, and a Fiesta Dinner (complete with a Pagoda Piñata).

Saturday, 5 October, is the much anticipated Poker Run through San Diego county. Win friends, influence people, see sights, have fun, and win prizes. The day will culminate at the Awards Dinner at Encinitas Ranch golf course, looking out toward the Pacific Ocean.
Space is limited! Get further event details and purchase your ticket at the event website!

Happy Thanksgiving from the folks at PagodaFest - San Diego 2019!!

One update we have - the reservations for the reserved block of rooms at the Grand Pacific Palisades are open and ready (two have already been taken). If you run into any difficulties at all, just let me/us know.

To clarify a point about the hotel reservations using the PagodaFest reserved rooms.

We reserved a block of ten rooms, each requiring a three-night minimum, and and advance non-refundable payment. We did this to guarantee the room rate, and to get the resort fee waived. While not cancellable, if there is an issue, the reservations can be sold to someone else, and they can take over the room.

If need be we can assist.

All the details are on the PagodaFest website - www.pagodafest.com, then to event venues tab

Single king $169, double $189 + tax, but no resort fee.

I called the hotel for reservations yesterday.  They were knowledgeable, knew who we we're, and provided the group rate.  A good experience.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS from PagodaFest San Diego 2019 (https://static.wixstatic.com/media/d2aedd_bea36d3558024cfc95be01f9c417c529~mv2.png/v1/fill/w_768,h_541,al_c,lg_1/Christmas%20logo%204.png)

Don’t be a Grinch. Have you bought your PagodaPasses yet?  So far 66 people have bought theirs and will be making the trip to San Diego.  They are coming from all around the globe - Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, Sweden, England, France, and the US. Is your country represented?

Remember we have a limited PagodaPasses availiable and we are expecting a sell out. This would make a great Christmas gift! Have Santa bring a PagodaPass down the chimney for you and/or your loved ones!

This is a new direction for Pagoda gatherings in the US, and you need to be a part of it. A dynamic mix of technical topics and driving through the beautiful environs of San Diego, America’s Finest City! and San Diego county. The two-day event (and half-day informal meet and greet) take place from Thursday evening, October 3rd, through the awards dinner on Saturday October 5th.

For those wavering about the hotel, five of the negotiated rate rooms are left - better check your lists quickly! (negotiated rate - $169 single/$189 double - resort fee waived). Current pricing is $175/$200 plus a $20/night resort fee. Remember that this is controlled by the hotel and demand for rooms in October 2019, so prices will vary.

All the information you and Santa need is at our website:

Hola,Pagodistas!

If you are cheap like me and not up for spending $200 a night for a nice room that you will only be sleeping in, there is a decent Courtyard Marriott that's just a six-minute drive from the event hotel. I just booked a room at the senior rate (a first … I turn the minimum "senior" age for Marriott hotels, 62, a few weeks before the event!) for $137 a night, including a hot breakfast ($132 without the breakfast). With the savings, I figure I can buy a lot of margaritas!

The standard rate for you youngsters is $155 a night, or $149 if you are a Marriott Bonvoy member.

Here's the link: https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sancs-courtyard-san-diego-carlsbad/

Safe travels!

Brian

Brian,

Did you check out the AirB&B's around the event locations? You can save some more and have a lot more Margaritas :) I always try to find a B&B with safe parking so I can sleep at night ~grin~

Great Link, thanks for sharing.

Best, hope to see you again on the West coast if nothing drastic happens to prevent me from going. If I do go it will be in my DD (unless I can get the work done before that departure date out west along Route 66). There be an open passenger seat to share. Whatever car I take it will be a joy :)

Hi Dieter! I haven't checked out the B&B situation yet, but I will. The Marriott reservations can be cancelled without charge up to 3 days before the event.  Parking isn't an issue for me as I will be attending sans-Pagoda, unfortunately!

Are you driving all the way from Canada? By yourself?  How long do you anticipate it will take you going on the old Route 66?  If you have an open co-pilot seat, I may want to join you ... assuming I can work out the timing.

Cheers,
Brian

Brian, not 100% certain if I will drive or fly, i’m looking at both options. Booked my accommodations near the event hotel. If I drive it will be the SL53 AMG that get’s the call. If I fly I shall fly into Palm Springs or LA and rent a car. I have the Classic Center on my list as a must see item.

Let’s stay in touch,

Yes. The list went out as scheduled. However, after reviewing our email logs 2 people are consistently are not getting our pagodafest eblasts.  They are getting bounced backed. It seems your email provider does not like them.  >:(

You (neelyrc) and Wallace Wheeler have the problem emails accounts. I do see both of you did not use traditional email isp's (yahoo,  gmail, outlook,  etc) when you bought your tickets.   BTW,  did you even get your tickets by email?

The only way to fix this quickly is to use a different email account. Both you and Wallace need to email us at pagodafest@gmail.com with a new email account and we will change it in our system at our end.

It is important to do this ASAP (today  ;) )as we are sending out Pagodafest updates this week.

Important notice - Please Read:
PagodaFest - event hotel has been changed!

Renovation work at Grand Pacific Palisades (GPP) has been delayed enough that it likely will interfere with or negatively influence PagodaFest attendees’ experience during their hotel stay.

As a result we are pleased to announce that the PagodaFest event hotel has changed to the brand new Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa located just east and north of the GPP and the Flower Fields:

Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa
5420 Grand Pacific Drive
Carlsbad CA
760-827-2400
https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sanbs-sheraton-carlsbad-resort-and-spa/

If you are still looking for a place to stay, the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa would be an excellent option to consider as it is now our official event hotel. You would need to book directly with the hotel or using your preferred travel resource. Unfortunately the block of rooms at our special negotiated rate is fully subscribed, so reservations made at this point would be at the current market rates plus any applicable resort fees, parking and taxes.  However don’t delay as room inventory at the Sheraton is limited and rates are subject to change.

If you believe that you hold a booked reservation at the GPP but did not receive an email with special instructions on how to transfer your reservation, please contact PagodaFest immediately.

Please visit PagodaFest.com for more information regarding the event hotel update.

Tour to Gemological Institute of America

We have a gem of a tour opportunity available for PagodaFest. As a Friday afternoon leisure activity we have arranged a private free tour of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) museum.  We expect to have a tour bus for the group, picking up after lunch (12:45PM Sharp!) at the Flower Fields and then returning back to the Flower Fields at the conclusion of the 1.5 hour tour.

You will need to make a careful choice of what you would like to attend: the exciting Pagoda technical sessions, or a building filled with sparkling gems…

Visit PagodaFest.com/gia for tour information. The tour is limited to 45 people, first come first served. Sign-up will close on 20 Sept 2019. We will need to get the names of the tour participants to the museum three days ahead of the tour. They tend to be kind of picky about just leaving the doors open! Each guest requires a government issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.) and only guests that are listed will be admitted onto the campus.

This is a fabulous museum tucked in the confines of the GIA campus just minutes away from the Flower Fields venue.

To add yourself to the GIA Excursion list please send us an email at pagodafest@gmail.com with the subject line "GIA Excursion".  Please include your full name in the body of the email. First come, first served. We do have a minimum of 30 for the tour bus, so let us know as soon as you can.

We will notify you in September if you made the list.

Garry,

Our documents show that you were moved to the Sheraton as it's the new event hotel.  This sounds like a mess up on GPP part.

At this time we don't know if it is localized to you or more wide spread.  I would suggest you call GPP and find out.  We will work the problem on our end and get back to you also.

Please email us at PagodaFest@gmail.com if you have any other questions.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

2 tickets were just nabbed by a lucky couple 👍👍👍

2 tickets are left.  Remember. If you buy them both as a couple we will refund you the $200 so you will be only paying $550 like a normal couples ticket.

Maybe we should have a prize for the last lucky ticket buyer🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Jon,

Do you happen to have a current participant's list available for us who attends?

The old one is from June - totally outdated. ;)

Would be great - gladly by email or PN. Just to know who is around (and not to miss)

Thanks a lot & all best

Achim
(currently at Hemosa Beach)

He’s Jon,

I second Achim’s request, not just for us, for everyone.

Thanks a bunch Jon, we know you are busy, then we also know you are up for the challenge :)

Errata.

Ed Hill (49er) and his wife were a last minute cancellation and were accidentally left on the list and will not be attending.

Fantastic event !

Thanks so much to the organizers and their spouses.  Incredibly well done and very much appreciated.

An event to remember.

A few event photos. The first one is the queue line to enter Friday morning 8:00 am. The line of cars goes over the crest of the hill and out of sight.

Thanks to all for posting photos. What an event it must have been! What was the final tally of all the pagodas that were there?

John

Brilliant event guys- Jai and I really enjoyed it. Tech sessions very very informative and the drive was superb  :)

Thanks to Jon and ALL the organisers and of course the sponsors for making the event work so well.

Pagoda people are a very nice bunch ,  some we already knew but we met many more new Pagoda friends.

We are both now back in the UK and very much looking forward to getting out our Pagodas for the next event in Europe.

Once again- thankyou- These events are what make this great club.

Best week I've had in a long time.  Kathy and I had a wonderful time with old friends, and new.  I think I heard Jon say there were 42 Pagodas there.

During the event there were many questions asked about contact information.

We were going to post a list, but after some follow up discussion came to the conclusion that there were too many privacy issues (legal and personal) to print an overall list. The request also included posting the person's forum handle.

Our suggestion is to post on a separate thread - which I will start. Who you are looking for so that you can make the connections with new friends using the PM set up on the forum.

Jon,

Will there be a place to post photos from the event?  I have a few id like to share and I’d like to see what the official photographers captured.

I’d like to express my appreciation for all the effort that went into organizing a first class event that was absolutely perfect.  The venue was perfect, the weather was perfect and the activities were perfect.   Thanks to everyone that contributed to the event.   So glad I shipped my Pagoda from Canada.   Worth every penny.   Cruising the 101 along the beach in a group of Pagodas was priceless.

Thanks again.

I will set up a separate thread for PagodaFest.

Suggest - post a couple of photos on the thread as a teaser, and then post a link.

Martijn took quite a number of photos during the event, and he is still working on narrowing those down. He will post a flickr link.

The event photographer will also be setting up a link. He has been tied up with some issues where he works. I will follow up with him this week.

So glad you enjoyed the event.
