Watching our local news here this morning, they showed video from the fire that swept through the town of Paradise (Pop, 25,000) which is about 80 miles due north of us. Among the 100's of destroyed cars left behind was another '65 Mustang hatchback. The deviation is unbelievable, nearly 7000 structures gone and of those, 6500 were homes and others being hospitals, schools, shopping centers all in just a matter of a couple of hours. Several people perished in their cars as they were trapped by flames trying to escape. The fires that have ravaged California these past few years and have been the worst in modern history. Due to the cool night time temperatures weather this time of year, the smoke plume lies close to the ground and had turned day into night for most of the northern part of the state. Rain can not come soon enough but will be too late for the 10's of thousands that have lost everything.

Firstly, I would say that my Pagodas are not harmed. One was in storage in California (away from fires) and the other is in Hermosa Beach California in my garage. I happen to be stateside at the moment.
However, we have a house in MALIBU that we rent out. The plan was to live there but since my work has kept me in France for the last dozen years, we never moved to Malibu. We have tenants who got out safely about an hour prior to this canyon burning.
We will have some repairs as many many power poles are down and this house is on a well and we need power to pump & filter the water. We have a propane tank and that looks in tact, but not sure. We don't know the condition of our electrics as I have not been able to get in to check due to evacuations and no access. I expect to get in by the weekend. Hopefully.
My tenant, was not allowed back in, but then he saw a horse-trailer caravan being let in to save the horses and he joined the caravan to get access back into Malibu. He sent these photos of our house.
As you can see, the fire licked the house, but it was not burned. The neighbors' houses (to the right and across the street) were burned to the ground.
We have damage as our gate at the bottom of the hill looks like it took a hit and maybe the water-well electrics, but so far the house is intact. He had a 1969 MG in the garage (thought I would mention this, since this is car forum).
By the way - we do yearly brush clearing, but so do the neighbors who lost their homes.
The fire came up to the white wooden fence - as you can see. You can also see the house to the right that is leveled - if you zoom in to the right of house, by the BIG tree, you will see what's left of the house to the right. The other shot is the house across street that was lost.
We got work to deal with, but a lot less than others.

Phew Oz, that was a close one! Such widespread devastation, sympathy to all those people stricken.

Oz, thankfully your family and tenants are safe. Wishing you well in recovering from the property damage. Such a tragedy all across the state. Hopefully all the fires will be under control soon.
