Title: Soft top bow tube?
Post by: Giulianeo on October 12, 2018, 01:02:36
Hi everyone,

I have this trim that I believe is for the W113 softtop I could be wrong, my other guess would be the W121 190sl. Any ideas?

Thank you,

Regards

Similar on a 190SL. This part was only used on early 113's with a wooden rear bow above the window.

Thanks for the pointer, do you think its worth anything?

Thank you,

It depends on condition.  If it isn't scratched up, bent, or any of the nails missing, then it's worth something.

Benz Dr,  what years had wood bows in the soft top frame?
I always liked the look of the chrome trim on the soft top frame sections.
Very classy.

Hello Giulianeo,

Yes, I agree with Dr. Benz; on the first glance your piece looks like a "de-chromed" chrome strip above the rear wooden softtop bow,
but on the second view it does no longer. ???
First of all, all the nails are missing and second on picture IMG_1764 the 'profile' of your no-longer-chromed strip looks clearly different from the original A113 779 0064 one ...

Well, I would say it is something else ... does not really look Pagoda'ish' to me ... ???

Well, Zak, you have asked our Benz Dr. about this and I instead answer - which I shouldn't do here, it's impolite ...;

the chrome strip A113 779 0064 was only used 1963 - 1964 up to serial no. 007640 together with the wooden bow but not thereafter anymore (from VIN 007641 onwards) since then the wooden bow was replaced by a steel-tube bow and thus the chrome strip was omitted ... 8)

Best,[/size]

Achim
(with chrome strip - accordint to the VIN)
