Title: SLK AMG 55 2008
Post by: Garry on September 13, 2018, 12:29:37
Am looking at possibly purchasing an SLK AMG 55 2008 to add to the garage collection.

Anyone have one or heard anything good/bad about this model that i should know before i go in to negotiate.

Garry

Jeremy Clarkson owned one. Have you read "The Clarkson Review: Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG (2012)" , subtitled "I know about your frilly knickers, Butch"? It is very funny but he is a fan of the version you are looking at.

Best regards
Andrew

Hi Garry

Positive: I owned one of those: A wonderful toy, I liked it a lot.
Negative: Got a $500.00 speeding ticket ! There you see how much I liked it>

Hi Garry,

It is not an SLK. My former partner in BC Canada will be selling soon a 1986 560SL for a friend of his that passed away. The paperwork will just have to be straightened out and he will have to have a close look at it to establish an asking price. I’ve provided some info to him etc.

Once all is taken care of I or he (Robert as you recall he joins=ed our Group earlier this year) will List the car with photos here in our “Items for Sale” forum area. Perhaps there is a member that once had one and like to purchase one. I know the Lady that owned her took good care of this car.

Might be something you like Garry for the 2019 PUB California Event unless you plan to ship your Pagoda to California. :)

Hi Garry,

I have several friends with these. They all have good things to say. These do not have as much room as the full size SL for luggage or passengers, but have a lot more than your "E Type". The heating and AC are great, and the folding power hard top is fantastic, with no wind noise, at all, at highway speeds. Also, as you may remember, these folding hardtops are water-tight, even in a down-poor. The power and acceleration is incredible and the roar of the big V-8 engine is music to one's ears. Frank Cozza competed with his, in driving events, in the Mercedes Club for years with no real issues. Last I heard it was still going strong after 100 K miles. It can be a bit of work to replace any bad folding top hydraulic cylinders so check for any hydraulic leaks.

Thanks all for comments.

Went and had a good look and decided not to buy this particular one.  There looked like something had been spilt on the paint work on the front right fender and some of the clear coat had spotted holes through it so it would have needed a repaint. You had to look very closely to see but some of the polishing was really bad telling me that the owner did not really know what he was doing and as a collector I did not want too have to give it a repaint so will look some more.

I will eventually find the right one of this update model that is ok.
