Post by: ejboyd5 on August 09, 2018, 00:22:19
Believe it or not, I actually had to go to Fishers Island today on FD/EMS business.  Saw one around 1130 hours on an unpaved road/driveway south of East End Road, but didn't have time to take a picture.  Around 1430 hours parked on Greenwood Road was this:

Is the 280SL emblem on the wrong side, or did some come like this?

Very nice condition, but puzzling.
Airstream sticker and no tow hook.
Tasmanian tag on front, but NY tag on back(NY requires two tags to be mounted-front and rear)
What color code is that?  #906 blue?
Emblem on wrong side, is not a big issue, have seen many with emblems switched around.

I see people playing "games' with the plates all the time. Especially import cars. Here in Ohio, front plates are required also and many people are in violation of the rule. On cars were front plates do not look "cool" (e.g.: Corvettes) they do not have a plate, and on some imports (e.g. BMW 3-series, Golf GTIs) they run a "German" plate
.
Maybe the owner of the 280 immigrated from Australia??

I spent a long weekend in June on Fishers Island a few years back.
What a special place.
