Post by: Garry on September 16, 2017, 02:45:02
A couple of early teaser photos from Ramsay Farm Virginia and PUB V today.

Great first day with a fantastic turnout at the farm. Lots of good Pagodas, good food, good wine and great company

I took this brief 360 degree video clip on arrival last Thursday just prior to our Board Meeting. It gives everyone that did not have a chance to attend this magnificent event a taste of the spectacular surroundings of this truly outstanding event.

Thank you Tom for allowing us to enjoy a few days of those wonderful surroundings and the truly Southern Hospitality! Someone mentioned during our Friday night dinner “It is not only about our cars, it is also about the people and and the friendships that are made with individuals from all around the world”

I hope the video will open to allow you all to see this wonderful area of Virginia and the Southern Hospitality we all were treated to during this event. It may be difficult to top in 2019 I know someone somehow will try :)

Dieter

What a wonderful location.

Many thanks to everyone who helped organize this fantastic event.

I am sure those in attendance appreciated the effort and expense our host Tom Sargeant went through to install the car lift.

Concrete footings for the 4 posts.

The wood Platform and ramp

The canopy

Getting electrical to the location.

It sure made a difference. And became a savior for a few members.

Tom only does things one way, for those who know him...if you don't, now you do. Yes that lift was just amazing. Many people learned a lot of things. To echo Rolf who was quoted by Alex D at the dinner, some of us have first world problems. If you need a new fuel line or something similar to get home, well, we'll just mosey about in the background.

It was great to meet some new faces and reconnect with many old ones, some dating back to 15 years ago!
I had a relatively long drive, about 10 hours yesterday, leaving at 12:40 after lunch. I parked in my garage at 10:20. Nearly 10 hours, just three brief stops (mostly for my thirsty SL); drove at 75-80 when I could except for a few slowdowns here and there, and that means 4000 RPM. Hot, noisy.

"Trucks behaving badly" and "pokey people in the left lane" was the first 60 miles on I-81 North. Jeez, RIGHT LANE trucks and pokey people. Once I got off 81 the PA and OH turnpikes were moving nicely.

Hi Jonny B,  That be Chris (if I'm not mistaking) in the passenger seat and Bill Hollins pretending to drive away :)

All having a wonderful time ...

Dieter

Mike, I made it home in 12 hours with stops and more then 3 fuel refills :) lets just leave it at that. The only issue I had my 2 year old GPS went on strike and I was lucky to have maps from Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York State in my car to find my way home again :) (via US routes 29, 66, 70, 76, 79 and 90) at the border the border guard was mainly interested in the car then waved me thru with "Have a great night Sir" ... he may turn up as a member some day :) I did declare the Poster, spark plugs and the book like a good boy should.

Hauser asked me in a PM what on earth have we been drinking, well just about anything under the sun :) cocktail followed by dinner with more of the same. What can I say Tom is a wonderful host he knows a thing or two about Gemüdlichkeit for his guests all driving Classic German cars :)

BTW. When we had dinner during the Moseltour last July, Peter H. was an equal gracious host and as we too had a few drinks Achim sat beside me and we looked over thru the glass divided dinning room looking at the guests driving the Mercedes R/C 107. Achim turned to me and said "On this side here are the classic drivers, over there are the used car people" I just smiled and blamed it on the cocktails we had that evening.

HUGE thanks to the organizers and experts.

Tom Sargeant, Chuck Taylor, Alex Djuric, Bob Hyatt, Jon Bernardi, Ray Hays & Will Milby, you guys did amazing.

It was pretty apparent that you clearly did not charge each of us participants enough to cover the costs of what you pulled off.  "Someone" reached very deep.  Giving back is one thing, but hosting this many participants in such style is another.

With sincere appreciation,

Oz

The car turned over 200,000 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way home.  I had to effect a minor repair in the hotel parking lot in Charleston on the way home.  I had happened to buy a 55 amp alternator from Bud's Benz at the PUB.  On the way home, the Air Conditioner pulley worked loose.  I had to remove the old alternator to access the idler pulley.  So it seemed like a good time to install the new one.  Kristy shot the photo, then went for coffee.

All of our time on the Interstates was spent with the flow of traffic at around 80 or so.  3200 RPM in 5th gear, A/C on, no overheating, 24 mpg.  My word, these cars are great on the highway!

A special thank you to everyone who made PUB such a successful event! I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the weekend!  Tom's Ramsay Farm was a truly perfect setting! Will ("and company") prepared and presented exquisite meals! The Team's general organization was so  helpful to learn more about these cars, even after it has been in the family for 40 years!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all!!!!
All of you have set the bar high! Well done!!!!

Dave,

Great pictures!  I can't believe the photobomb by the 190sl.  I will speak with security about how this was allowed.

There are great photos not posted that will appear in the next edition of Pagoda World.  Worth the price of membership.

Best,

Tom

Some more photos taken during the event. Not all cars were on the green when I took those photographs (some may have been at the wine tasting event or in some other area on the property). Also I took them rather fast since many Members returned from lunch. Quality of photos is not the best, taken with my iPad. The poster was on sale as a souvenir of the PUB 2017 event (still needs straightening from being rolled up in a tiny tube).
