Title: Our own event, Messina Sicily June 18.
Post by: mdsalemi on June 02, 2017, 13:24:17
One of the great benefits of membership here, particularly for those that don't shy away from meeting others, is indeed meeting others! To that end, I'll be meeting our member from Messina, Mauro Pisani on Sunday, June 18 briefly before I head home. I don't think there are any other members in the Messina area but if there are, let us know! Hopefully I can show him a few things on his car, including the Blacklick mixture test!

Hi Michael,

Indeed it is a key part of our Group to meet other Members in our travels. As someone said "it's not only about our cars it's about People" it i always great to meet someone with the same interests. In July I will be traveling in Germany and along the way will meet 4 or 5 Pagodetreff Members as I make my way around the old country celebrating 60 years since I left from Bremerhaven to immigrate to Canada. I will meet quite a few more Pagodetreff Members during the Mosel Tour. Looking forward to see you and others again in September at PUB Virginia 2017.

Talking about people and Members of our great Pagoda SL Group here, next year I will be attending Euro 2018 as will Garry. We have been offered a Pagoda for use during the event that we will pick up near Nice, France (near the event) it truly shows the point about "it's about People" how great is that. The car Garry and I will be driving is actually one of the stories in your "Pagoda Style" book.

Have a great trip back home.

PS. You have to tell me more about this "Blacklick mixture test" in September :)

Yes of course!  And before we go to meet Mauro,  we will be coming from Salemi!

It was truly a great honor to visit our friend Mauro Pisani in Messina, Sicily last Sunday. Mauro was a gracious host, taking us all around the city, which for those unfamiliar with geography, is the closest point of Sicily to the continent across the Straits of Messina. We were able to spend about six hours with Mauro before having to drive south to Catania, where we had an early flight home the next day. The older gentleman in the photo overlooking the water is my father, who had just turned 95 4 days earlier--and no, that's not a typo.

Mauro has a great 250SL driver with 5-speed (Italian, what else?) and he's trying hard to maintain it. We ran the Blacklick CO test, and leaned up the idle just a tad; mid and high range seemed to be running in balance.

Messina is a beautiful city, and should be on anyone's list should they take a trip to Sicily.

I hope to host Mauro on his next visit to the states.

Michael & Mauro,

Very nice.  Great to meet up with Pagoda folks around the world.     Nice to see your 95 year old dad joining you.  Fantastic.

Naj, two Salemis spent two nights in Salemi. They treated us like royalty.

Sounds like you and your dad had a wonderful visit to Sicily. :)

By the way, Salemi is designated as one of the "Borghi più belli d'Italia", a designation awarded to beautiful small towns in Italy of historic and artistic interest.

He climbed with me to the top of the cupula at the Catedral di St. Agata in Catania. He's quite a trooper. Don't know what I'll do with him when and if he gets old. ;)

We are planning a trip to Germany and Italy and Sicily next year also.  My Grandmother is from Santa Agata.  Did you get there?

Not exactly...Sant'Agata di Militello is west of Messina. We didn't stop--we were on a mission to get to Messina--but we did drive through it on the A20 Autostrada on the way from Palermo. If you find yourself driving this route--the A20 between Palermo and Messina in either direction, be prepared for a ride! It is a near-constant barrage of tunnels (unlit  >:() followed by bridges. So, you come out of a tunnel right onto a bridge, that leads to another tunnel. Repeat. We stopped counting! Aside from Cefalu, this is a relatively sparse part of the island, quite mountainous at the coastline, and beautiful of course.

Hello Michael,    Just got back from Sicily, drove the whole island.   Agrigentro, Syracusa,,Noto, Palermo  all seem to worth the visit.  The churches in Palermo all were fantastic, just amazing.   This all happened in May.   On my return I fell 3 stories and now am laid up in a hospital since June 7th.  Surprising how many of my friends from Cleveland were Sicilian.and from Santa Agata area.... we stopped in Cefalu because my brothers 97 year old neighbor his parents got married in the Cathedral in Cefalu.   I stayed with the car, no place to park.
Hope to see all in Virginia,
