Hi all,
I have just got round to refitting the chrome trim fitted externally to the base of the windscreen.
When I removed the trim (some time ago...) I noted that it didn't have any clips at the outer periphery. When I checked online I found that a special bolt is required which I ordered.
Now that I have it I have absolutely no idea how it will fit into the trim.
Anybody know how this is supposed to work?

Perhaps you would like to specify what kind of car you're trying to fit this chrome trim to. I suspect it's not a W113. :-)

I would assume this is the same as a coupe on this piece. Yes, on either end there is a special bolt in the trim. A nut and lock washer attach to bolt that is accessed by opening the door. From what I remember, that bolt is the same as what you bought. But I was thinking that it was installed before the bracket at the end was fastened to the trim. Almost as if it was not replaceable w/o removing that bracket. My bolt was ok and so I didn't really pay that much attention to it. It is a "T" bolt so it won't rotate once in the trim. Does that help?

Thank you Wallace for always making the effort to responsd. Although it doesn't fully answer the question it is a good start to knowe that at least the part is correct. My fenders do not have the hole drilled in them and I didn't want to do that if it was not necessary.
Another issue is the use of sealant. Maybe because the bolts were not present whoever last fitted the chrome mouldings used quite a bit of sealing compound around the plastic clips. Do you know if this is actually required?

The screw pictured that goes into the molding is a is a replacement/changeover part
and so is the chrome molding. From ch. #45763. If this applies to your car then some adjustments seems to be required. A footnote #16 in the EPC indicates that the "retaining shackle" needs to be shortened by 2.5mm, not quite sure what is meant by that.
I would try to either carefully bend up the small tab on the shackle to allow the screw to be inserted into the rectangular slot. Or grind of enough of the tab to allow for the screw to be inserted which possibly is what the FN means by shortening shackle.
Or a bit of both.
No sealant is needed around the plastic clips, but might have been used in conjuction with the windshield installation. The tricky part during installation of the chrome part is that the rear part of the molding is to be Inserted under a lip of the WS rubber seal while the plastic clips are pushed down into the plastic female part inserted into the holes in the sheet metal. I never found a good way to do this without risking to damage the WS rubber seal. Hope this makes some sense.

Your response is very much appreciated. I will look at this modification tomorrow.
It is so long since I took off the trim that I didn't even remember it fitted under the rubber seal, although this makes perfect sense of course!
