Title: Considering Purchasing a Pre-Owned 2014-2016 E63 AMG
Post by: Nate on September 30, 2016, 20:37:32
I'm considering purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned 2014-2016 E63 AMG 4Door.  Interested in hearing from members about any ownership experiences and if there are any mechanical or build quality issues that I should be aware of before jumping in.  Would you suggest buying the extended warranty on an E63 AMG?

Thanks,

Nate

I bought a 2014 E350 Certified Pre Owned.  I know it is mechanically different but the build quality is great.  At any time during the CPO warranty you have the option to extend the warranty if you feel it is necessary.  I think in my case I will not buy the extended warranty since I trade every few years.  There are more electronics and suspension parts that are high tech on an E63 so if you plan to keep it longer an extended warranty may not be a bad idea...

I own a 2006 CLS 500. Engine is good. Suspension terrible. endless issues with Airmatic and with only 43,000 miles on it one ball  joint needs replacement and the whole suspensions system has started to creak. Also have had electrical issues with automatic door locks.  I would not buy one again.  you are looking at something newer and a different car but i think the one I have is based on the E platform. I bought it while it was under warranty with 16,000 miles on it and from that day forward during idle there is a slight rough ness that comes and goes. Mercedes were never able to figure out the cause. it still does it. Minor but annoying. the Navigation system is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

I traded my E350 4MATIC for a Certifyed 2012 C63 AMG and I am very satisfied. I was offered the extended warranty, however I declined. Instead I invested the money in a separate portfolio just in case the funds are needed.

I don't believe in extended warranties, besides being a car nut I never know how long I keep the car. I missed my ///M3 (my wife found the car too noisy ~grin~). So when the right car with the right interior and wheels came along I made the switch.

Both the C63 AMG and my 280SL get along very well as garage mates. Mind you there still is a new 500 or 550SL in the cards, perhaps as a Euro delivery. Maybe next summer, time will tell.

As soon as my CPO warranty was over my steering wheel would no longer go up and down.  It was ok going in and out but was stuck at it's highest position.  Driving was similar to that of a very large truck.  It cost me almost $3,000.00 to get it fixed.  Great cars to drive but when it comes to repairs it just gets way too expensive!
