Hi, I have a '64 230 SL I am restoring. The uphostery code from the data card is 203. When I refer to the section on upholstery codes on this site, I don't understand the difference between the Upholstery code and Seat color? For 203 there shows a picture of red leather, but it also adds that seat color is red 1079 and carpet is medium red 6509. As I look for leathers, I can find a 1079, but not a 203. What should I be looking for?? Is the dash leather the same as the seat leather? Thank you.

I have the factory sales manual for the era. It has original paint, top and upholstery samples. It shows the 203 and 1079 on the same sample (the same). Not sure why two numbers. The other samples have two numbers also. Yes, the same on the dash also.

Hi,
I believe that the 3-digit code is the interior code as found on the datacard, and the 4 digit code is the color code for the leather/Tex. In this case Interior code 203 and 1079 red leather.

The "Ausstattung" code for my car is 119, so it means MB-Tex (Vinyl) with the color white grey 2102.
But at the back of the MB-Tex and also at the parts where it is glued on, there is this code "51" (I guess).
Does anybody know what this code means?

These were usually 3 digit numbers. They match the last 3 digits of the first part of body number in the 4th line of the paint code plate. Perhaps in your case these are just the last 2 digits, I am not sure... What are the last digits of the first number in line 4 of the paint code plate in your car?

You should cherish this. It is written with crayon by workers on the production line. It is the last digits of the Production No for your SL (you can find this in your Data card or stamped on the body plate near the hood catch, left side)

Some people have been sleeping during the assembly of the car.
Nearly everywhere the number 51 can be found, which corresponds to the Production No at my Data Card.
But there are also parts taken from two cars before mine, which has number 49. ;D
