Title: Where are you planing to travel next with your Pagoda
Post by: Rolf-Dieter ✝︎ on June 29, 2016, 19:19:16
Why do I ask this question ... Well we had and still have great ongoing feedback to the excellent question as to "What have you done to your Pagoda today" suffice it to pose the next question ....

"Where are you planing to travel next with your Pagoda"

I strongly believe that if we share this here in our "Events" forum area it might lead to more opportunities for us to arrange a get-together as well as share events that are held in your neck of the woods. Remember it's not only about our cars, it's about the people too our last PUB session was a great success.

So let us share here events you might know about in your area and if it's only for coffee you plan to meet that be fine too, there might be another member near by that would love to join also.

meanwhile have a great summer!

and safe and sunny travels always ....

Dieter

So let me start the Ball rolling ... On Friday next week come rain or shine my Pagoda will head south to Oley, Pennsylvania for the Deutsche Classic, I have 4 days to myself and plan to enjoy them :)

Dieter

PS ... The map shows my trip south in "blue" and the return trip shall be one of the slower routes.

My next trip will be to the technical inspection bureau ('Controle Technique'), 10 kms away, to get my car registered in France. When is unknown, because I first need to receive a document from the French classic car federation which I am told could take months ...

Cees

What country is your car registered in at the moment?

I got a certificate from MB in Paris four years ago which let me re-register rather than go through the FFVE palaver. If you go the FFVE route are you not limited to a carte grise de collection?

I also think that I needed the certificate for the CT to dismount from the no carte grise no CT; no CT no carte grise roundabout.

I am going down to France this weekend while they will still let me in! Let me know if copies of any of my reregistration paperwork would be helpful.

Regards
Andrew

He Andrew, that is mighty nice of you, and I am very interested in your experience, because in checking on the MB France site, the information said that they could not issue certificates for cars manufactured before, I think, 1998 or thereabouts. So if you have any information on that certificate, who you contacted etc, I would be much obliged. So if they give you any trouble at the border, have 'em call me and I wil vouch for you ;-)
Yes, the FFVE certfication would limit me to carte grise de collection, but AFAIK there are no real impediments to that, only that you can't use the car for work purposes, which I don't intend to anyway.
Thanks in advance, I will pm you also with my regular email address so we don't hog the line here ...

hauser,

When will you be visiting in Maine and will you be driving it? when I lived in Montreal we took several trips down to Maine ... Lovely roads and country.

I just returned from Oley, PA had a great time and meet nice folks with similar interests on old timer cars.

I do hope members here have time to take there Pagoda some place nice and not just keep it in the garage  :)

I'll be driving to the Vintage Race Car event at Road of America Elkhard Lake WI. this weekend. That's about 400 mi. one way from Duluth where I live.
Looking forward to the event and of course simply driving my car is a great pleasure for me.

Absolutely terrific photos of your w113 and Florida.  Thanks.  BTW, where in FL were those pictures taken?  My wife and I and our '69 280 SL are looking for a place down there and are thinking currently of Sanibel.     David

Last month when I had a respite break I attended a car show from a former Customer here locally. There were only 5 German cars on the field, the "Blue Tornado" was awarded the trophy for the "Non Big Three" :) it was a rainy day, still a fun outing even for Charley our Golden Retriever.

Charley was not much of a navigator, however a great companion.

Due to a number of misfortunes this summer my car still sits in the barn. :'( I had it running the other day but fuel was leaking out from the hose coming from the fuel pump so I walked away from it. I might get it out before the season ends. :(

However, I did drive a number of cars this year and with 6 pagodas to choose from I'm not lonely.

Would still like to do the Benz Dr. tour - maybe next year............

Hi Dan,

Perhaps we should make some plans for a few of us to undertake that trip along Route 66 with our toys. I would certainly feel comfortable taking that trip from the Benz Barn to Chicago then follow Route 66 all the way to LA wit you and the right tools in the Red Baron to handle any upcoming emergency. It would make quite a story in our Pagoda World Magazine sometime in the future. ~smile~ I think 6 cars should be our limit for that trip (one of us needs to stand guard during the night while the others sleep - naturally this would be on a rotational basis).

I can tell you that I had great fun in 2011 taking that trip with my then 2009 Z4 3.5 BMW, except for the cracked rims I encountered from my low profile Run Flat Tires (I think I showed you one of the cracked rims that now serves as garden hose holder in my garage).

Best, Dieter

PS. Sorry I missed you last week when you stopped by, I was out bottling my wine at the wine store.

If all works out fine I'll drive down to PUB Verginia 2017 and celebrate my 80s along the way in September with my Blue Tornado.

Plans are to make a trip to Europe in May or June all depending when the Mosel tour is scheduled, no my Blue Tornado will stay at home for that trip. Plans are to combine the Euro trip with a family reunion, a river cruse and the Mosel Tour if I find a open passenger seat. If not well I just rent a Pagoda some place :)

Next Friday, my wife and I will be driving our 280SL from Mexico City to Cuernavaca in the State of Morelos, a distance of about 85 kilometers through hilly terrain but on a nice 3 lane freeway. The route takes you from 2100 meters above sea level, to 2300 on the mountain pass, and then descends to Cuernavaca´s 1500 meters and warmer climate. I will be attending a car show at the Hacienda Temixco over the long weekend holiday.  I plan to beat rush hour traffic by leaving before noon, arriving in an hour and a half to our hotel. I have never driven my Pagoda that far since I bought it over a year ago, so this will be a test for the maintenace I have performed to the cooling system, brakes and engine tune up. I have taken shorter trips of about 40 kilometers on easier routes and everything seems ok. The car is running a bit rich fuel mixture, but hopefully the lower altiutude change will help its performance. Wish me luck, I will let you know how the trip develops. Taking no chances, our kids will follow us on our moden family car...

Good that your kids will be there too, not for the drive oh no for the parking lot at the hotel. I recommend that you and your kids work out a 3 hour night watch on rotation for the hotel overnight parking. Just saying to be safe.

As for the drive, your Pagoda loves to be driven trust me, I have mine now for 3 1/2 years and driven her close to 10,000 Miles now.

Happy Motoring, enjoy your trip and post photos as you know we all love them.

Car is hunkered down to avoid the salt but...
My wife has signed up to do the Rallye des Princesses again over 5 days in late May
Place Vendome in Paris to St Tropez, with a hill climb up to Alp D'Huez along the way

All being well, I shall get to drive the car home via Epernay again!

I am sure we will see lots of pictures of the Rallye.  Do remember to post some pictures of your car among the vines also.  The greenery of Epernay and Hautvilliers will be fantastic in the late spring.

Sorry for not being clear. I should have included this quote. I know the Rallye is gals only. I was referring to your trip home via Epernay. Always a lovely place to visit. Enjoy!

Since you have experienced the Napolean Route, I would just cruise north on the less scenic A7 autoroute and plan a stopover in the Beaune area. Our favorite overnight is le Hameau de Barboron just outside Savigny-les-Beaune.  Unfortunately the boot size of the pagoda may restrict your wine shopping!

We drove to Cuernavaca from México City on a scenic highway, and our 280 SL performed beautifully. Seen here in front of the Cortez Palace downtown Cuernavaca.
