Title: Mecum Monterey auction this coming August
Post by: Steve Hamilton on June 09, 2016, 16:38:38
I have my 1969 280SL up for sale - so far without success, and I'm thinking of putting it in the Mecum Auction in Monterey this coming August. Any opinions on the wisdom of trying to sell it at this venue? I have the car listed in the for sale section here, and on Craigslist. I need to get it sold this summer.

Auctions have pluses and minuses.  You car is in front of a large audience but you have to be in front of the RIGHT audience.  Then you have the issue of reserve or NO Reserve.  You need to talk to them about the car and get their input.  These folks are generally helpful even thought they obviously want to sell your car.  Sotheby's only takes about 1 in 10 cars that are presented to them  I believe Mecum will take most cars.
