Title: What are your travel plans this Summer of 2016 ???
Post by: Rolf-Dieter ✝︎ on April 04, 2016, 21:50:51
The Automotive Extravaganza Like No Others June 4th & 5th 2016

If you live anywhere near London, Ontario Canada, this may be of interest to you.

One of the largest gatherings of Old timer Automobiles will be coming together (as they have been in past years) just outside of London, Ontario Canada. I have been going to this event for the past 8 years and each time it was an unforgettable event.

The event is held on a Golf Course that the owner shares with car enthusiast like ourselves. Each year there are thousands of cars attending not only from Ontario bud also from neighboring Canadian Provinces as well as US States like Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, NY States etc.

There are spots set aside for specific car clubs like Fleetwood, Corvette, Cadillac etc. The owner of the Golf Club Mr. Steve Plunkett has one of the larges Cadillac collection around in his "Cadilac of the 30s Museum completed in 2009 (see the link below for details). This garage along with his entire collection is only open to the public during this event and it is a site to be seen.

I was thinking what a great opportunity it would be to get together with other Pagoda enthusiasts during this first weekend in June. We can arrange to have a spot reserved were we then will be parked all together (like other groups I've mentioned above).

So ... Calling All Pagodas in the neighboring provinces of Ontario as well as bordering US States, Michigan, Illinois Ohio, NY States etc.
should you be interested let me know and I would then contact Mr. Plunkett for a designated spot for us to park,  naturally I need to arrange this within the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Check it out click on the link below (read about last years event as the page opens - then click "close" to go to the main page).

When; Saturday June 4th and Sunday June 5th 2016

Time; 7am - 5pm

Where: Plunkett Estate 9282 Elviage Drive

WebSiter ====> http://www.fleetwoodcountrycruizein.com

Time to plan is now, it's only 8 weeks down the road :)

Cheers,

Dieter

I have been to this show several times and it is as big as Dieter says it is. I think there was something like 3,500 cars there last year. All proceeds go to local groups to help fund their own events and nothing goes to the guy who owns this place.
I know Steve a little bit and sometimes sit with him at lunch in a local diner. Very nice guy and a real car nut. Every year since this show went big he always had George Barris come up from California. I'm not sure who will go this year now that he's passed.

Like last year and year's past... I will be driving from Minneapolis to Elkhart Lake, WI a couple of times, to vintage races at Road America. This could be a fun outing or opportunity for cars in the Dakotas, Minnesota (Urban, I'm talking to you here!), or Chicago folks could meet us up there. I didn't see another Pagoda at either of these events last year... sad.. but alas, they aren't 'sports cars'... just about every conceivable enthusiast car can be found on the grounds these weekends.

They do three vintage weekends at Road America each year, the July event is the biggest with between 400 and 500 vintage racing cars entered, second only to the Monterey Historics is sheer number of cars. Vintage race cars come from all over the country, and in fact, from other countries too. The 'Fall Festival' is in September, a smaller, more intimate gathering... also a great weekend, not as hot or crowded.

This year the big weekend is July 15 - 17. Last year I drove down with some old car friends of mine... only on back roads, of course. There is just nothing more fun than enjoying a cruise with old car friends... he we are meeting up early Friday morning in Prescott, WI for the drive down. And one of my car (and the plum crazy Challenger) at the Saturday night 'Concours'... it's an eclectic car show in downtown Elkhart Lake, for charity, so it costs about $50 to participate and while there are 'classes' it's nothing more really, than a chance for people to park downtown and show their cars. Its an eclectic group of cars... from maybe a 1983 Mazda RX7 all the way up to a Ferrari 250GT TdF... what's that, a $5 - $6 Million dollar range (depending on who might have driven the Ferrari in period?).

The Fall Festival is September 16 - 18 this year.

Hi Bob,

Yes two are on my list so far the one near my house (a 10 minute drive from my house) at Steve Plunkets on June 4 and 5 and the one at Deutsche Classic on July 9th (a 8 hour drive I plan on taking in a relaxed two 4 hour segments with an over night stop). Looking forward to both.

Dieter

PS. I am enjoying the photo gallery from past events of the Deutsche Classic events.

Rolf,
I would love to go to the Deutsche Classic Car Show.  But I will be returning from vacation and that will be my travel day.

By the way I would like to make a trip to the Reading Pagoda (pronounced RED-ing) in Reading,PA to do another photo shot.
If I / we can get there before 10:00 am the place is empty and we can drive right up to the Padoda.

Dieter,

I'm looking forward to seeing you again as it's been a long time since PUB last September. Anthracite is almost ready, I hope we have good weather. I can take you to the Reading Pagoda for a picture event if you drive your SL.

Bob

A couple of suggestions not far off your route:

- Corning Glass Museum: A world class museum of the history and science of glass. Amazing.

- Fallingwater: Frank Lloyd Wright's best known house. We've all seen the pictures, but it's better in real life. Take the tour. And yes, the roof leaks.

Hi Bob,

Looking forward to see you again as well and if the weather is right your fine car also.

Hi Cees,

I will take the Pagoda, she looks great even if wet :) Besides I've got my hardtop on so I won't get wet ~grin~

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the tips! I will make time to see those 2 places you recommended. It will add one more place to my list to have seen (see list of places to see ~ link below), so far I only saw 7 listed it will be 8 by the time I return from this trip. ;)
