Title: Super Sunday
Post by: 49er on February 08, 2016, 16:54:51
Yesterday was a super Sunday and not just because of a football game. Spring has come early, at least for this week, and it was a beautiful warm day. What better thing to do but pull off the car cover, lower the ST and go for a ride in our Pagoda. I hadn’t started it since before Christmas but it fired up on the first crank. It took a mile or two for the squeaky speedometer to quiet down and the temp to come up for the heater to supply a little extra warmth to the navigator. We were out for over two hours before reluctantly turning for home to watch the game and the car never ran better. Attached are a couple of pictures, the first taken not far from home yesterday and the second of our 8 month old C300 with it’s new California Black plate parked next to her very distant relative. It has the same letter/number sequence as the SL but with a “2” at the end as in “too”. Silly I know, but I do like the look of the old plates and it did seem to tie the two cars together. Not sure who that old man in the picture is though ::)

Great looking pair!   And it's obvious which one the handsome young model prefers --- just look at which car his arm is around.

Love the plates too (2).

Very nice... and an original owner is allowed to get a hair colour resembling the paint job of his cars...  8)

Thanks Oz and Peter, My hair was 050 not to long ago but now more like 149U (C300 Polar White), but at least I still have some ;D And as far as the "Handsome Young Model", you had better up the resolution on your monitor 8) You are right though, the SL will always be my first love. It does make me feel like a kid again when I am behind the wheel, white hair and all.

Nice photos John, thanks for sharing.

Like yourself I too feel like a young lad again when driving mine, remembering the day in the early 1970s when I test drove one along the expressway (TransCanada Highway in Montreal, Quebec) knowing full well I could not afford one at my then draughtsman salary. The price at that time was over $9,000.00 US if my memory serves me right.

The test drive way back then did leave a permanent mark in my brain and after hanging up my hardhead and finally retired I found my retirement entertainment. My happy moments are now each time I am behind the wheel of this marvel of engineering. Like yourself I too five a newer Benz, still it can and will never replace the Pagoda.

Nice photo John,

Now do I get a blue rinse to match my 334 or get another 050 Pagoda

I would go for the 050 Pagoda. You probably put in a lot of time and worked hard to get those white hairs. They are the mark of distinction :)
