Fitted the hard top for the winter yesterday and then took the old girl down to the port for lunch with friends...

Mike, this is an awesome picture! It shows you gave it a thought before snapping it: red seats in the cafe with the red car in perspective, prrrrrfect!
Thanks for sharing.

That is a lovely photo... but that will not count as winter! First snow of the year in Edinburgh last night. My Pagoda is tucked up under its blanket in its heated garage with no fixed plan to get it back to France other than the looming backstop of the CT expiring in May. I am very jealous - do keep the photos coming.

Regards
Andrew

I swear it was ALMOST snowing this past July in Edinburgh... ;) Just in the nick of time, and after our first 8" of snow here (which melted within 5 days) I was able to move my car the 150 miles to its winter storage location, where freshly filled with fluids, freshly washed and cleaned, she sleeps under her flannel cover. If weather permits (all I ask for is 100% dry pavement) we'll take her out for a spin on December 31-Jan 2. I did that last year too, on the last day before the big snows that don't melt until spring!

Thanks Igor, I parked in front of my friend's 1938 boat and only saw the photo, red tables and all, as we were leaving the restaurant...

Best,

Thanks Andrew. The expiring CT is a good enough reason to get her on the road in the spring! We've had a really dry winter here so far. I'm sure the rain is coming and I'll have to also tuck the old girl
under her blanket in Jan-Feb!

Best,

Mike

Well, here in Minnesota this time of year means putting our cars away for the Winter. Amazingly, I just put mine away in a friend's heated warehouse yesterday... along with his 280SL, a couple of Porsche 911s and other fun Summer toys.

It was 45 degrees on the 9th of December, crazy, unseasonably warm weather we've been having, I've never put a car away this late before.

I didn't take a photos of the car with it's cover on it... too boring, but I do have two photos of the odometer.

One was taken at the beginning of the season, the car had just turned 100k miles. You can look at the odometer photos I took yesterday. I'd call that a pretty good Summer! All those miles and I didn't even make it to PUB in Ohio. A good chunk of the miles were two round trips from Minneapolis to Elkhart Lake, WI over the gorgeous back roads for vintage races and car shows. The Walleye 1000 Vintage Rally (http://walleye1000.com/) was another 500.

Already looking forward to Spring!

Rain here yesterday and some much needed snow up the hill. Below freezing at the house this morning but warmed up to 40f around 10:00am so we uncovered our car and took a short drive around our neighborhood. Top stayed up and the great little heater kept the navigator nice and toasty. This will be the SL's last drive of 2015 so Sta-Bil is in the tank, battery tender plugged in and all nice and snug under two car covers :)

This being the 18th of December and no snow in sight I decided to take my Blue Tornado for a last spin of the year (perhaps not there is no snow in the forecast and a white Christmas is not going to happen). Parked her in front of a Locomotive downtown (they used to make them here).

On the way home I stopped by the gulf club (all quiet there on the green, except for the club house, lots of drinking going on there, or whatever parking lot was packed with cars) :)

Cheers and Happy Holiday Wishes from our house to Yours!

Dieter

Will paint both this spring back to original. Red one has engine rebuilt and running as of last two dayts. the White one is already running engine. Brakes / fuel pump and gas tank being worked on.

Nice pic, it seems a little colder than here!
I took the old girl out for a drive on Saturday, a cold but clear sunny day.

OK :), so these are not to current and i have posted them before, but thought they might fit this topic. They were taken in December 1967 near Monument Valley, Arizona. The car pictured was my first SL, a 250SL. It was truly an amazing journey. Getting out the hotel's parking lot with over a foot of snow covering the car was a major challenge.

Hi Mike,
it looks like a great time to enjoy Pagoda with the roof on.
Please enlighten me with the plate of your car.
It looks like the old French plate before the white/yellow period, but it has no department numbers...?

Taken from the front porch this AM.  Sea fog is not too common on the bay but today we're slightly below zero F.  Cars are resting comfortably in their garages on the other side of the house. Forecast is for temperatures in the high 40s with rain by Tuesday. Weatherwise, the eastern end of Long Island is an interesting place to live.

Mine has been sleeping the winter slummer for a few months so it was time to wake her up to
circulate some of that engine oil and let her idle for a spell.

I moved the DD our of the so I could open the driver door once the winter cover was removed
started her up and moved her into the driveway. like Mike's car mine only gets to see the road
in the winter time when the roads are absolutely bone dry :)

Enjoyed the idle sound while Blue Tornado got some fresh cold winter air (-24C this morning).

We had about 8 inches of fresh snow that may melt soon with a warm front aproaching from
the west, so the weatherman promises, then we don't much believe in him do we now ;)

"Hi Mike,

Hi Stan,
There are 2 types of plates for older cars that one can get in France.
1. If your car is registered as a "Classic Car" you're allowed to use the old style registration plates.
2. If a car's first registration was pre Dec. 1992 you can also use the old style plates.

I never registered mine as classic car, so went for option no.2.  Since about 3 years ago the new French plates no longer show the department no.

Best,

Mike

I happen to have arrived back in California, so yesterday drove a couple of hours south and joined a few of our Pagoda Friends!   What winter?    70F / 21C

Those attending included:  Kampala, Jonny B., 66andBlue, Barry D., Tyler S. and Noreen & Dick.

We had an excellent Mexican lunch (I crave Mexican when in France), lots of Pagoda talk, nice variety of cars and even nicer folks.   And we actually opened some hoods/bonnets.

Nice break from the Paris winter --- soaked up the sun and got sunburned on the top of my bald head.

My Pagoda thanked me for a nice 250 mile roundtrip run.

Hope to do it again.

(didn't really take the opportunity for photos but here are a couple of snapshot)

Nice photo Oz, and wish we could meet up with you So Cal guys sometimes. Pretty sure the car would make the 900 mile RT but not so sure about the driver and navigator. Just solo drives for us up here as we enjoy the same mild weather too and could count the times we see another Pagoda on one hand. Enjoy the weather but pray for rain.

John

PS I imagine the tops were up to keep looky loo's out of your cars or maybe keeping that hot California sun from cooking the leather/MB Tex 8)

I was thinking the same John, good idea to do this during a nice long California lunch.

Well, truth be told, only ONE pagoda arrived with Top down!   I will leave it to you to determine which one.   ;)

Thinned blood?  Maybe.

Since from the restaurant patio we could not see the pagodas, we closed them up.

49'r, if you ever come down to So Cal with your Pagoda, plan on going waaaaay south, tighter network of Pagoda folks closer to the border.   But, if I'm around and not in France, I'm in your old stamping ground!

Best,

Notice that the Ohio Pagoda's have license plate "PAGODA" and "PAGODA 1".  For any other Ohio Pagoda owners watching "1 PAGODA" is still available from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

I had Friday off work.   I was feeling the effects of a lingering cold and decided I needed a bit of internal combustion rejuvenation.  I had two hours to kill before my exercise class so I decided to check on the snow conditions at a local ski hill.
