Title: Is this correct battery hold down bracket for my car?
Post by: rutger kohler on November 11, 2015, 07:34:28
Hi, when I bought my 280SE 3.5 several months ago it already had the battery hold down bracket shown in the attached photo.  Is this correct bracket for this model, and if so what are the two grommets for that are placed in the angle iron, attached to the bracket please?

many thanks

Rodger K

Tia Ora, Rutger,
The battery tray hold down is correct, but the grommet angle portion is not correct(grind it off).
Should have a bracket with two hook type tabs for the windshield washer bag that hangs there between the battery and the motor.
Also the two nuts there should be wingnuts, similar to the one holding the cover on the power steering pump.
Does this help?
Walter

Hi Walter, thanks for that, yes i will grind the angle iron off, however the bracket you show for the washer bag is for a LHD car, mine is located on the other side of the engine bay.

Hi All, several months ago I asked if the bracket on the side of my battery clamp was correct. Recently I have seen another 280SE 3.5 with the same piece of angle iron on and a small fuse box factory mounted on it.  Neither the car owner or myself could figure out what the fuse Single) is for.

Can anyone help identify what this is for plse

Do the battery cables run through those grommets? I don't have it on my coupe.

Hi, no the battery leads don't run through these grommets. I have attached a photo (poor) taken on my clunky phone in bad light.  You are looking at the battery tray with the battery removed on a RHD car.  It is definitely a factory fitted fusebox with a fuse in it.  I am sure the coupe wiring is different to my sedan, as Doug suggests.  The battery clamp is in place and the fuse box can just be seen (about the size of a matchbox if anyone can remember them) with the front cable leading into it.  The back cable is obscured by the fuse box itself.

What about a fuse box for auxiliary equipment like an electric aerial and radio.   I have seen this setup on a couple of cars but normally mounted on the triangular plate which is used to mount up the relay array.

Hi Andy, good point, could be for air condtioning or power windows?  The fusebox shows Fuse 1 & 2 for radio and antenna but I agree could other auxillaries.  Will ask Kevin if his car (one I took the photo on) has air-con, power windows or electric door locks. Good to see you on the website again.
