Title: Windscreen wood trim
Post by: PeterPortugal on October 16, 2015, 18:15:06
Hi All,

I have a 63 Cabrio that came minus the wood surround around the windscreen.

I see plenty of these advertised for Coupes. Are the Coupe and Cabrio pieces interchangeable?

Regards

Peter

I wouldn't think so. Might call Madera Concepts and ask them. I bet they know.

Got a message from Jeff at Madera (nice guy) and he confirmed that they only refurbish the wooden pieces and do not remove or replace them so they don't necessarilly even know exactly which model of vehicle they come from.

Therefore this one is back out to the forum ! Anybody ??

Peter,
Try Hatch and Sons, they have done restorations on these cars.
Maybe Bud's Benz, also restores these cars.

Title: Windscreen wood trim - Coupe vs Cabrio - Pictures Please??
Post by: PeterPortugal on December 18, 2015, 20:09:41
Hi all,

I posted on here a while back asking whether anyone knew if Cabrio and Coupe wooden trim was identical around the top and sides of the windscreen (shield).

Well after buying some Coupe pieces (cheap fortunately) I can confirm they are not. The big difference are the sun-visors. These have to be mounted off the windscreen frame in a Cabrio and they are fixed to the roof in the Coupe...obvious really.

I am wondering if I can modify the Coupe pieces to suit but having never had any original ones to start with I'm not entirely sure how to shape them.

Any W111 Cabrio owners out there willing to post some decent pictures of the wooden frame at the top of the windscreen ??

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

Interesting point. If you decide that they cannot be modified I am probably interested in the pieces..I need the wood trim (at least sides and roof..two pieces I believe) for my coupe. My dash piece is also split, but at least I have it. I'm afraid I can't help you in respect to saying whether the pieces you have can be adapted to fit your cabrio. Good luk,

Hi Dave,

Let me check first whether they are actually for a Coupe !! I am not entirely convinced now that I have checked them myself (only managed it yesterday).

Here is one of the pieces I think you are looking for that is Cabriolet specific.

Hi Perry,
Sadly I logged on too late and missed it. I think I have another pair sourced though.

Dave - the pieces I had were for a saloon. If I come across any more I shall pass on the details to you.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

Thanks for that. Are the saloon pieces different to the coupe then? I thought the front screen was the same, but maybe not the internal surround?

Thanks,

d

Hi Dave,

The overall shape is slightly different but also another difference appears to be the finish on the reverse. The pieces I received had a flat finish on the back of the wood where it fits against the pillar at the sides of the screen. It needs to be scalloped for a Coupe or Cabrio because the windscreen pillar is convex. When I had a look on ebay for other coupe versions I could see they were scalloped at the sides.

Have a look at the picture which shows the back is flat. The top parts were scalloped on the saloon version too though.

Cheers

Peter

Thanks Peter. That's a pain, makes it even harder to find.
