Title: Thoughts on adding this to the PUB agenda - - ?
Post by: lurtch on April 25, 2015, 15:39:57
Hello All,

Thinking about PUB I came up with this idea:

What  do people think about inviting a professional car appraiser to attend?  I think it would add value to the event and take care of something I think a lot of us have neglected to do. A written appraisal by a certified inspector should be something all of us should have in our possession.

Think how great it would be to have an insiders perspective on what the current values might be, where they are headed, who's is doing the buying, how many are being sold out of the USA? and on and on - - .

Perhaps we could even ask this person to give a presentation?

I would be willing to pay a little more to attend (to cover this added expense) if I could come away with an appraisal.

Regards,

Larry in CA

I think it is a great Idea! We need this in order to make sure our insurance coverage is up to par.

As for additional cost, I don't think that be necessary since if we find one locally say in Columbus, OH h/she would gladly take care of there own expenses since they are in business in this field.

I am sure some of the Pagoda owners from the Ohio area know of someone they can contact. If one is found I would pay for the services extra.

Perhaps we should find out how many of us would engage the appraiser for this service then this number could be provided to the appraiser.

Great idea!  However, in my experience, most certified, professional appraisers charge a lot more for a documented appraisal with photos and write-up. Often three or four hours of examination, market research, and documentation is involved. We can still look into it.

Thanks,
Joe

With 75 to 100 cars expected to attend our two day event in September, I do not know how any appraisers would be able to facilitate our attendees "walking away" with an appraisal.  I think this is best scheduled on one's own personal calendar in their own personal town.  I don't know any economies of scale that would occur in having it done at our event.  I think that this activity would detract from the limited time we have to attend tech sessions, socialize, and fiddle under hoods.

The Warm Running Device (WRD) is one of the great mysteries of a Pagoda.  I think I have the parts to put together a display of WRDs over time, showing how they go together and how they have changed over the years.  Everything would be apart so people can see how it all goes together and what does what to what as it operates.

Would this be of any interest?

Indeed. As I have been posting on other threads - photos will be taken. But along with the photo display, will also ask for some verbiage to help with explaining the transition. I don't need anything formal, just the basic information, I can put the captions, etc together.

Plus we will want to put it in the wiki too

OK, I think I have a reasonable Science Fair display pulled together.  It includes an R11 FIP from a 230SL using the tall thermostat on the WRD, and an R20 FIP from a 280SL using the short thermostat on the WRD.  Both can be taken apart and examined so people can see how they work.  I also have the cover removed from one of the FIPs so you can see the mechanism controlled the WRD and BC.  People can also see the main rack adjusting screw and play with that, plus the idle mixture knob, and the big end plug can be removed to see the mid speed mixture screws.  I think it will provide a pretty good hands on tour of a FIP.

A long time back I started drafting a WRD tour for the wiki.  I'll try to use this as an excuse to finish that.
