Guys,
I'm trying to avoid paying the premium for an original set of Spark plug leads - what would be the next best reasonably priced set?
Any difference in performance? Would it matter to the concourse judges if I was ever to enter?

Use the search function - I tried "spark plug wire" and "spark plug lead" and limited to the search to topics only, and got a single page of hits for each of the items. I think that will give you a good start on the wire question.
For the judging part, the most obvious item I look at, as a first glance - is the lead for the number one cylinder an angled or straight connector? For the Pagoda it should be straight. Should also be black, oops, the wires should be black.
The various threads will give you the technical details, which are the most important to be correct - the type of wire and the resistance of the connector.

I bought a set from K&K in Grand Rapids. Reasonably priced and claimed to be a match to originals. This stated, wire #1 is a 90 degree angle on their set.

Thanks, I did read some of the past posts but was just looking for a recommendation on vendor for a near original set. Kevin's options sounds decent, I will consider that against others.

I bought my set from MB using the original P/N. Yes, not cheap for sure.
The plug for the #1 Cyl. is straight.

This looks pretty darn correct and may even use the OEM branded parts (Beru) or at least ones that look like it.

Be careful about new wire sets. Some of them have carbon core coil wires which is the last thing you want.

Dan is certainly right about the carbon core, but the Authentic wires do say copper core and are the 1K resistance. They also state that the ends can be screwed off in order to fit through the wire tube that the earlier cars have.That should be correct and they look exactly like the wire set I bought from Mercedes. The only difference I see is that the Mercedes set had the plastic protector sleeve where the wires travel near the injection tubes.
