Title: 17 July 2014 Encinitas California
Post by: Jonny B on July 14, 2014, 01:41:10
I have sent emails to the local contingent (those that I know of). Thought I would also post it here. If interested, Encinitas California has a "Third Thursday" cruise in during the summer months. Next one is this coming Thursday, 17 July 2014. We have some spots reserved by a Pagoda owning restaurant owner right along the 101. Send a PM if interested, sooner rather than later so I can let Paolo know about spaces.

Sorry that I missed out yesterday but the 230SL decided to stay put.
After a few hours of head scratching and testing different spark plug wires the culprit was found - I have never seen this kind of failure:   :o

Hey Alfred,
That happened to my car a couple of years ago.
Fortunately the local car parts store had a Bosch replacement at a reasonable price.

I once had that happen to my 1976 Saab way back in 1983 or so. I don't know if the cap was incorrectly fitted back in place or it just decided to move because of the rough roads.

Schtuff happens sometimes. A good idea is to keep a spare handy.

Regards,

The contact is usually dis-lodged when the cap is wrangled on and off. One guy I know replaced the distributor cap without retrieving the missing contact. the little contact rolled around in the distributor for months, occasionally shorting out the ignition and stranding the poor guy. Eventually the culprit was discovered after much investigation and frustration.
