That will be 'Vom Barock zur Pagode' by Gunther Engelen. No English translation yet as far as I know, but this is the definitive work on the car.

if the love for Pagoda could lead to learn German, it would prove that one can be really car crazy, as the aka suggests.
Good luck

I agree with both Cees and Stan...

a very inexpensive book is this ---> http://www.heel-verlag.de/lshop,showdetail,139769979731641,de,1397699797-31641,auto.deutschemarken.mercedes,654557,6,Tshowrub--auto.deutschemarken.mercedes,.htm

you can always use Google to help with translation and learning the language :)

example ......

German ----> 384 Seiten, zahlreiche Abbildungen, 220 x 260 mm, gebunden Dieses Buch enthält alles, was man über Mercedes wissen muss!

To English ----> 384 pages, numerous illustrations, 220 x 260 mm, bound  This book contains everything you need to know about Mercedes! It is about the eventful history of the company and the people behind the successful brand.
At the center but the product is: the Mercedes through the ages, presented in magnificent photographs and accompanying texts with knowledgeable.

Mind you Google not always cuts the musterd when it comes to translation, then we all know how to read between the lines.

I personally like the "original" books. They have been made for several great cars such as Jaguar E Types, XK's and Morgan. I know there is a Original Mercedes Pagoda book  - these books care much for the details that makes a car original.

Good luck with your new car.

And just a good advice: Buy a good car from the beginning. I have experienced that spare parts a very expensive for a Pagoda. But what a car!! I love the fantastic engineering.

Cheers

Yeah, except for that we have counted at least one erroneous fact per page in that book.... Meredith is not quite the M-B expert

As a start, getting your hands on a copy of "Original Mercedes SL" by Laurence Meredith published by Motorbooks international ISBN 0-7603-1921-9 would be a great first step to building understanding and a Pagoda library. At least its in English and has plenty of originality pictures as Ulrick says

cheers
