In search for a new desktop picture I was thinking it would be great if we would have a place where each of us could upload the favorite picture of our own car.
This way we might also see some different color combinations etc...
Since I do not believe we have this I created this thread ; here is my 250 SL color code 158H MB Tex 115.

EDIT -- Mind you the two photos below are also on my favourite list, they are the first shots I've ever taken of my car (before it was my car)
when I found her in this million dollar garage parked lonely amongst 18 other American Classics from the 40s and 50s some 60s There was a
kind of whisper in my ears sounded something like this
"rescue me get me out of here please" that was in March 2013 and I rescued her in May 2013. Glad I did.

May I recommend using all your favorites as your screen saver slide show. I have been collecting favorite pagoda pictures and have about 75 in my slide show. Many of the members cars on this forum are part of my collection. My PC going into screen saver mode is what keeps me sane during Monday morning management meetings. ;D

There some real nice pictures here, since this is a big group with many owners I look forward to see plenty more.
Interesting that only GGR had one with soft top, does it mean we prefer open and hardtop ? Or is it to much work for us to take of the hardtop ;D
We had an artwork from Ian but he pulled it, I thought it looked pretty cool.
So far I have a few favorites , all the cars look great however some pictures are really great , like the one from james; Cirlcle and the first one from Craig.

OK. So my favorite photo happens to be of my Pagoda in all its Pagoda roofed glory. Here is my favorite pagoda shot with the top (or hood, in the U.K.) up and my favorite topless shot (with apologies to "she who must be obeyed!').

Stan and Arhur, you are buddies huh; both of you in Warszawa must be fun to drive together there. I actually seen a video if I recall well on your way to Willingen. I assume that you were among those drivers?
I've been in Poland among so many countries I travel and remember Krakow as a very nice town; for those visiting Poland; don't skip it. It would be like passing through Belgium and not visiting Brugge and Brussels market place.
Thanks for posting new pictures; I got a new one, was inspired by CraigD's picture and I played with B/C etc... that is somewhat of a habit as I happen to be in intro oral X-ray business and enhancing or optimizing for better diagnostics is very common. Not sure you'll see more in my picture; on the contrary; you see less and that makes it somehow more interesting. Well that's my 2 cents :)

All your guesses are corect ;) We meet and drive often together (last time: yesterday evening ;D). Yes, we were in Willingen, and yes, our two Paggodas were pictured in the video (put together by Artur).
BTW, Cracow is probably the most visited cities in Poland, even tough I find that Wroclaw is as attactive, if not more.
Nice picture of your car. I somewhat liked more the previous small registration plates. Alas, EU forced all members to go uniformely big size

I love driving there, great scenery and with clear weather you can see England on the other side of the channel, what wasn't obviously the case in the picture.
The Blue 230 SL was parked there when I arrived, it was a Belgian as well and I don't know who it is. I just parked next to it and took the picture, walked not to far away so that I could go back and meet the owner. Only they were just gone when I returned. Some other people told me the other owner just left and that they first took pictures of both before they took off. Never known who they were, a pity actually. It would be fun to know someone with same car here.

When I visited the. Factory near Stuttgart in 2009, I was thinking how the factory might have looked like in the 60's without all the robots ... This picture I came across one day and I saved it. It is not my car, however, Assembly line no. 9 (Band 9 in this photo) is now one of my favorite among my others in my garage :)

While I posted some pictures in the beginning of this thread, I think some of my favorite photos taken so far are during my return trip from Williamsburg last September after seeing many fine Pagoda's (47 in all) when I stopped on the Canadian site of Niagara Falls for dinner. It was a very enjoyable weekend and taking those photos with my IPad was fun.

One of the members in the German Pagode forum made a comment about the large parking spaces, little does he know that it is designed for RV's and the cost for parking there was $5- for 30 minutes :) anyway it was a great place to stop even if the daylight was fading away.

The car is a 1966 "162H" Blue-Grey, delivered to it's first owner in Hanover, Germany on October 7, 1966.

Four of my favourites... long ago (before digital cameras) I drove my SL up onto the grass at Spanish Banks beach in Vancouver. I also like driving at night, and tried to capture the feel of that. And the last one with the vintage look.

Achim, yeah, I have decided to make some improvements recently, so back active again. Actually, my account got deactivated, since I was so dormant. But you caught me... mine is a 4-speed; I wanted the speedo to look more engaged, so photoshopped a higher speed. Actually, I've rarely been up over 80 mph. I don't know about the rest of you, but mine is deafening at that speed. Engine, exhaust and wind noise pure cacophony!
I deleted that video, as I thought it was lame. I tried another evening one that was better: http://youtu.be/btOeCoHU5DA
Maybe next time I do as "sea to sky highway" run, I'll try another recording. Or maybe the Seymour mountain highway climb.

How's the driving photo taken? I would think in order to get the car (and you) in focus and get the background blurry it's taken with quite a long lens or it's taken from another moving car? Nicely done.

Tjeerd, a good friend of mine stood in a field with a slight tele-lens (85mm) and the following values: ISO400, f/18 and 1/125 shutter, and a Minolta Dynax 7D camera. He moved the lens with the car whilst taking the photograph. However, I also used a little photoshop to make the blurring in the picture a little more pronounced.
Since then I have bought better equipment, and I can quite reliably shoot pretty good car moving pictures… such as this one: no Photoshopping involved, Canon EOS 60D, 75mm lens, ISO 800, f/4, 1/800 (which is why the car is sharp), moving with the car.

A few months ago I took a trip up through the hills to Healesville Victoria Australia and stopped at the local bakery for a coffee. Low and behold there was my old Porsche 912 in the same car park! I waited around a bit for the current owner but he/she must have been busy enjoying the food elsewhere. Couldn't help but photograph my current SL alongside my previous 912.

Our 1966 230 SL as we stopped on our way to the south of France, a few weeks ago
When returning last week I spent a pleasant hour being chased -but not passed- on the Routes Nationales between Dijon and Chaumont by a 1966 Ferrari 330 gt 2+2. To keep that V12 behind me I had to lock the automatic in third and use all reves above 3000. The excentric British driver made me stop to take a picture of our cars. I had one of these when I was young, he said. A far better drive than this, he continued, while kicking the back tire of his Ferrari. Then he took off to catch the Calais ferry. This week he would drive his 330 to Italy and back.

I doubt it: she will become an Adult Woman one day, and the integrity of her hairdo will take precedence over classic motoring considerations.
Besides, unless something happens to me, I have another 3 decades to drive before my mid 70s! By then, I hope she will be busy thinking about taking her kids to Grampa's so they can go for a spin in his old car. He he.
For now, 9 years old, she really likes it. But I will have to find a brake booster solution before I let her drive it in a few years. That is, if the price trends don't send Pagodas into Gullwing territory, in which case I will have to wonder if I would rather have a mortgage and a Pagoda, or no mortgage, no debt and a corvette or something.

Not hijack the thread;But I recently had my brake booster overhauled by Power Brake Booster Co. in Calif. USA very reasonable as it turned out even a few dollars than the $185. USD. and quick excellent service.. Call & talk to Bill at Power Brake Exchange.. ell worth the money & will be done for the next 50 years. Good Luck & Best Regards to you your cutie.

Yes great trip, including a drive down the Stelvio pass and the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia. It was done on the back of our Euro event in 2012.

After more than 20 hours of polishing a paint that had not been touched in more than 15 years, this is what my 1965 230SL looks like. (yes, wrong hubcaps, but I have aluminum rims. About to modify them with the 3 pins and small hubcaps.) Well worth it: the appraiser asked if I had a new paint job!

Looks fantastic with a brilliant deep shine - your colour helps to add a wow factor!
Can I ask what sort of process you followed and products you used: e.g did you first use a cutting compound, moving up to finer cutting agents and through to polishers etc.
Did you use mechanical polishers or arms only?
Any general tips?

I use exclusively 3M products which although a lot more expensive than anything else I've tried, really get the job done. Even with good products, I could not get the fade out of my paint. 3M is not good, it's outstanding.
Yes, I use cutting compounds. First, 3M #06085 with white wool pad, then 3M # 06064 with foam polishing pad and finally 3M #06068 with polishing pad.
One of the secrets is the use the right pad for each different compound. And take your time! Too fast a speed on your polisher and you can easily cut through your paint, especially on the ridges. Put your compound on your pad and start very slowly so it does not spray everywhere.
I use a Dewalt polisher with adjustable speed. I would have worn my hands down to my elbows doing this manually! Again, buy top quality products. You'll save on time and you'll produce better results.

jpinet motivated me to post pictures because I was in the same situation 6 years ago. My paint had not been touched for over 10 years and I polished it up. I used a random orbital buffer, it sounds like he used a high speed buffer.
So, here are a few of my car. The last one is not sharp ... but I like it anyway.

Not to mention the Km after Km of the beautiful flower fields when in bloom. It really doesn't matter though, any photo with a beautiful Pagoda in it such as Gerster's is all you need.

Not my cars, but for me the most evocative picture ever taken of the 300 SL and perhaps one of the best advertising efforts ever. This is the picture that kindled my lifelong interest in the 300 SL, my mother's purchase of a new Roadster in 1961, and my purchases of a Coupe in 1964 and an additional one in 1971. I still have all three. The picture is taken from an advertisement by Mercedes-Benz Sales, Inc. (A Subsidiary of Studebaker-Packard Corporation) which appeared on page 10 of the May, 1960 issue of ROAD & TRACK.

After too many years, I finally finished our '68 280SL. I couldn't find old posts showing my protracted efforts to complete it, but here's the finished product. My wife was extremely patient about other cars and a vintage racing itch that interfered during the final stretch, and is very happy to have her car back!

Not sure it's my favourite, but took her for a drive recently on a nice winter's morning to place called 'Emerald' in Victoria - about 1hr drive from Melbourne. Plan on doing the same tomorrow - possibly top down as I recently took off the hard top.

Are you sure the venue is large enough? The Alfa Club has their day at Wesley also and they comfortable fill the place. I would have thought VW or Porsche could fill the place alone, without the likes of MB / other Germans.

Am taking my Pagoda. The kombi is in for a full resto at the moment and will not finish until November. Has been going 1 1/2 years now with November the aim date. You know what its like, I had hoped to have finished in December last year!!!!!
Not sure of the size of the place but I think it is similar to Wesley College.
I think there a couple of the local Pagoda guys going like Mark, Michael and Jimmy.

This photo of my car was taken ( I was unaware) by a professional photographer in the south of Portugal. By coincidence a friend saw it in a photo exhibition and told the photographer that he was the ex owner and a friend of the current one. The photographer, whom I never met, had the gesture to send me a 30x40 cm framed copy. This is my iPhone shot of his one.

I've admired and admired this thread. Here's my little Hawaiian beastie. My wife calls it mine. Actually I'm just its caretaker. She bought it from the second owner in '82. "The Bear", as she named it, has been moved to Oahu, Hawaii three times. It's lived and driven up and down the East and West Coast of the mainland (the contiguous 48 states), and across the USA. The Bear has also driven the roads of Italy and Sicily. Often I read the low mileage on fellow owner posts and I'm inclined to shrink into the background. But I'm actually pleased to say The Bear has 234,000 miles of great memories and currently it runs about as nice as it ever has. When maintenance or repair has become complicated I'm pleased to say Herwig at German Car Specialists has been its mechanic since my wife bought it. When we've had it on the mainland, feels best at 80 mph. Sadly, there is no place for that on Oahu. The running gear is original and only one cylinder is a little weaker than I'd like it to be. It gets a lot of appreciation, thumbs up and sincere offers as we drive it around.

Beachbear, we may have twin or near-twin 1969 W113s. Is yours DB670? Cognac interior? Mine has 182,000 miles, of which 177,000 were put on by the original owner's frequent trips from L.A. to Vegas for the first 20 years, and 5,000 by me since buying it in 1989. Regards, BigLou

Me and my 230sl on the Nullabor, Western Australia in 1975.
Blue with a silver hard top. Sold it in Perth WA a few years later.
I would love to know it's whereabouts these days or who may own her now, anybody in Aus. know ?

My 280SL soon after I purchased it in 2001. It is now on a Rotisserie in my basement fixing the rust that was there is 2001 but I was not ready to attack it.

Yes Achim we had some good weather,
the rally day through the mountain passes
was the worst.
It did seam a lot like the Dolomites/Merano
but with higher prices. :(
We stayed in France a few nights each way,
it was a great trip and the car was trouble free.
We only saw one club member that we knew -- Mike from Sweden.

What a 250sl looks like one month after taking delivery. Delivered on March 23,1967, pic taken April 1967 in Italy. The male in the pic is my wife's father who bought the car in March 1967, and the female was his girlfriend at the time.

This is a shot of our 20SL taken last September at our cabin retreat in the mountains of western Virginia. We stopped there on the return leg back to D.C from Ashville NC after the conclusion of the Southern Tour down the Blue Ridge Parkway from PUB 2017. Just short of 1500 miles in two weeks, with only 85 total Interstate miles!

The body is 181 Light Beige, and the Hard Top and Hubs are Light Blue 334 - Same as Garry's.
As I've been told by the old German mechanic who worked on the car back in the 70's & 80's for my father in law, he screwed up things on the car from time to time when he worked on it himself, but he did definitely got the color combination correct.

Yes there is: When we were building the cabin 25 years ago Lucy wanted a stone foundation and chimney. Tommy, one of the guys who worked for our contractor, did the stonework using rocks from an old collapsed farmhouse up on the mountain. One day Lucy and I were there inspecting the work and noticed that one of the stones laid into the foundation had furrows in its flat surface that strongly indicated it had been a fragment of a millstone and asked him if there might be other millstone rocks from that farmhouse that he could use when erecting the chimney. Tommy said, "I can do you one better, my pappy has a pair of French millstones laying around in his backyard that he salvaged from my grand pap's mill down on Jackson River after it burned down during WW II."
The bed (stationary) stone was set into the chimney and the runner (driven) stone was later set into the side wall when we built the garage, facing it's mate across the yard on the cabin.

Great story and great looking garage! I am partial to stone and stone chimneys. This is the stone farmhouse I restored in Italy. Unfortunately something very un-Pagoda like in front. :(

Thanks, It's an original unrestored '56 with the Poly V-8 and just turned 12300 original miles when I took it out last weekend.
We are running the risk of going off topic, for which I feel somewhat responsible, even though I tried to keep a Pagoda in (most of) my photos. It's been a fun conversation, but now we should get back to favorite pictures of our Pagodas before someone registers an objection! I'm happy to discuss the Dodge (and my Pagoda's other stable mates) in "Off Topic, Other Cars"

My car was a true Garage find (climate controlled), and ready to be driven. Shortly thereafter Dan (Benz Dr.) went thru the linkage tour and she's been running like a Swiss watch ever since then some 12,000 + miles. A true driver.
My favorite picture(s) still have to be when I first laid eyes on my car sometime in March 2013 in the local Millionaires garage in it he had 17 American cars (my estimate at the time of his restored American cars from the 50s and 16s by RM was around $4 Million US Dollars) and this 1969 280 SL Pagoda.
I recall asking him at the time "Loyd what is this German Square Head doing in this garage with those American Classic Cars? They must be arguing all night long!" He simply replied "Dieter it's for sale my wife gave her back to me in a divorce settlement a few years ago, I need the space to bring home another car I had restored by RM). I ask him for a price and I purchased it shortly after my inspection and test drive.
Loyd passed in April this year may he RIP (I understand his son sold most of the American Classics so people tell me at the local car show that I visited a few times this year).

Nothing special, but one of my favorite pictures appeared in a local German newspaper in 1982 with a report from a car meet.
The other, I always liked for the colors. It was shot in Michigan in 1988 during Apple Cider season
