Title: Vin number on 62 MBZ 220se
Post by: thecarappraiser on March 11, 2013, 20:07:09
So can someone enlighten me to the chassis number, i have on my car the tag on the radiator support that reads a vin number of 111 021 10 037512 which is same as the number stamped on the right frame rail, but stamped on the radiator support and on the paint code tag i have 111 021 10 0280. I think from my distant memory that the second number relates to the body production number at the factory, but i am not quite sure.
thanks
neil

111 021 is a 220Seb coupe. The 10 stands for LHD, standard trans. The last six numbers are the sequential production numbers which in this case would be 37,512.  They didn't make that many coupes so that number may include all 220SEb engined cars built up to that point.

Some numbers are only for one mode like 230SL'sl while others are for combined production.

Older post I realize but that last number looks like a 7 not a 2 to my eyes and compared to the 7 preceding it. If you till have access to the car and can confirm you may want to check any paperwork that was prepared at that time to ensure it has the right number. We all know the horror stories at DMVs, etc., with incorrect numbers.

The stamped number in the radiator support is the body number (which I can hardly read .... does it end with 02801?)

You can find this number "02801" on your data card on the top row in the field "Aufbau-Nr."
