Title: Key and Door lock question
Post by: 69280sl on September 14, 2012, 21:21:11
Can the cylinders in the exterior door handle/locks be re-set to work with another key of the correct cross section (In my case TB)?

The answer is "yes" assuming you have the 3-key system for your car.
There are two ways to do this if you want to diy:
1. The correct way is to select the fitting pin so it will not stick out from the surface of the round tumbler.  Sometimes one can switch them around to fit the key, otherwise you need to have some spares (from cannibalized other cylinders) that fit.
2. If not all of the available pins fit then one solution is to file down those that stick out until the tumbler turns freely.
Most lock companies familiar with locks on older cars should be able to this quickly.
