Title: Removal of front panel on Frigiking a/c unit
Post by: 0049bri on April 16, 2012, 11:17:26
Can anyone out there tell me how to remove the front panel
from the Frigiking a/c unit as i would like to cover the front in white
leather to match the rest of the dash on my LHD 280 SL.
I've removed the six Philips screws and the two control knobs
but this is obviously not enough to release it, is there some "hidden"
trick to removal?  ???

Yes, there are a few hidden tricks.  There are more than 6 screws.  It's been a year since I did mine and I can't recall exactly.  You will have to spend time on your back on each side of the transmission tunnel to see the screws that are up inside the plastic.  I'm pretty sure you have to remove the whole assembly including the metal parts that are attached to the blower.  That is a good idea anyway as the foam seals are likely perished.

While I had mine off, I fabricated an internal deflector to force more air out of the driver's side vent instead of freezing the passenger's knees.  Can't locate the photos at the moment.
