Title: rubber strips for 3.5 coupe
Post by: douglas dees on January 19, 2011, 19:43:03
Does anyone have the 2 rubber strips for the 280 SE coupe for the front bumpers?
Thanks

Doug,

I don't have them but wanted to let you know that I've been in touch with the Classic Center about this material (it is cut to fit - front and back).   It is no longer available, but they are going to trying and contact the original manufacturer and find out if they have stock or plan on doing another run.   If I hear something, I will let you know.

Hello,

Most likely this rubber profile is the same as a W108 and W109 sedan of the era. The lengths are most likely different. You might possibly be able to cut to fit some good used sedan rubber strips.

The 108 front bumper rubber strip has molded ends where on the later 111 coupes the ends tuck in beneath a hole in the bumper, so if the molded ends were cut off it would be too short. a possibility might be using the 108 rear bumper strip that runs all the way across. It could possibly be cut off to length to fit the coupe's front bumper.

When I owned a 67 250 coupe with the early chrome only bumpers, it had poorly rechromed bumpers, I installed 108 bumper strips to hide the wavy chrome finish, I imagine I used some kind of "T" bolts to attach it. The strips looked so similar no one ever noticed the difference

Bob Hatch has various W111 parts for sale.

Al
I looked at the W 108 bumper strips on the coupe and the slot appears to be narrower than that of the 280 SE 3.5 so I don't think the old strips will work.
