Title: Battery cable routing
Post by: Ron on November 19, 2008, 05:58:00

Hi,

Could anyone describe how to properly route the battery cables for a '66 230SL?  I think I have the OEM cables.  The ground one is short, about 30cm.  The + one has 5 grommets, each with metal holders on it.

1.  How does the battery sit in the tray?  Which pole, is positioned close to the engine?

2.  Does the ground cable fasten to the body where an engine ground cable comes across from the left front of the engine?

3.  Where do the 5 grommets and their mounts attach, (on the way to the starter)?

Thanks for any help you may have,

Ron

1. +ve closest to engine.thelews has the correct type battery and orientation  ;D
2. Ground cable connects to body. There is a hole near where the ballast resistor mounts.
3. Picture shows three of the mounts. Two more along the engine crank case to starter. The one nearest the Batt should have a split spring clip which clips the base of the batt tray.
