:)
Today was a beautiful day in western Switzerland, a good occasion to drive the 1965 230SL in the vineyards around the lake of Neuchâtel to enjoy the last days of harvest ...

Nice pictures! What about your steering wheel, is it a standard wooden wheel or with a wooden collor?

Great photos of a beautiful car. I love the old smaller license plate from Canton Vaud in the front.
-
Thank you both
Funny to notice that small "canton de Vaud" is known overseas 8)
The steering wheel is a standard wooden wheel. I replaced it when I bought the car 4 years ago because the black original was cracked.
Since all the wood in the car was completely faded, I bought a wood kit ( dashboard and between the seats).
A wooden steering wheel was available in the same species, so I prefered it to the black plastic one.
The "Becker Europa" is not working anymore, I installed a temporary modern HIFI radio receiver below the glovebox the time to fix it or to save some money to buy the new Becker Mexico. ( expensive!!! :( )

Actually, my first 280SL was originally from the town of Savigny in Canton Vaud.
(Also, my wife's father lives in Céligny, so I know the region well.) :)
The plate is interesting because you don't see the smaller plate too often any more. Can you tell me what year they stopped using that smaller size in the front?

You have an eagle eye, Gerard! I never even noticed the brown tone of the steering wheel in the original six pictures! Who is the supplier of this lovely item?
-
Douglas, the world is small :)
Savigny and Céligny... 2 very nice villages by the way.
The licence plate with the small number doesn't belong to me in fact.
The U on the licence plate means the owner is a garage or a work shop, and is normally associated with a low number.
Cabs have low numbers as well
The rest of the small numbers must belong to old drivers who are less on the road ;-)
My car was just finished friday evening after a 5 months stop to completely rebuilt the engine.
Since the licence plate office is closed on the week-end, I was offered to use the U numbers to bring back my Pagoda to my place via the long way around :D
