Title: Holy Smokes - Driving Everyday
Post by: MichaelB. on September 18, 2008, 10:22:46
How do you gents NOT drive these cars EVERYDAY.

I want to be in mine at any available moment. Unfortunately I feel that with a car this nice & unique that I am nearly afraid to get bugs on it or take a chance of some errand Impala putting a dent in it somewhere. I have an employee that today said "...that car needs to be saved for car shows..."

But to feel the smoothness under acceleration, and to shift that wonderful gear lever, and to steer that ivory steering wheel as I listen to the wonderful exhaust note is just to tempting not to experience everyday.

This car is intoxicating.

I do drive it everday. You have one as a daily driver and one for shows :D . Now working on the cash front to buy a "1" car.

I have a very strict rule for driving my car: I only take it out on days ending in 'Y'

I drive mine whenever my day plan allows it, which is pretty regularly. As much as I enjoy that, I also oftentimes notice things that "I've been meaning to get around to" so my car, which is a bit nicer than just a daily driver but by now means a show car, is always a work in progress. I suppose my ideal is to get serious sometime and do all of the little and bigger things I know would make it 'perfect'. Although having said that, I just about always get compliments on the car wherever I go. I feel we should receive some government support for making the roads a more aesthetic place.

Michael,

Daryl is absolutely correct. The trend goes for the second SL, an 113 of course. :D
You can put a (perhaps not such as nice) ivory colored steering wheel in the 2nd car as well and replace the shifter bushings, then it will drive and shift as nicely.  :)

Good luck!

I can handle the bugs but the dents are a little hard to take!

As the proud owner of a bona fide "driver" -- I have driven mine very regularly for the last several years. Rainy and snowy days keep me grounded but they make the sunny drives that much better. It helps that I live in a small, woodsy town where any drive is a good one. "Honey, I need to go to the post office" usually gets the job done...

Good thing you speak english! You'd have a hard time driving your SL if you lived in Argentina!

Driving it everyday is a good thing.  Mine will be going for a 200+ mile run tomorrow.  The Porsche 356 gets the treat today!

Time's a wastin'!  This would be the best time to start so that you miss most of the hurricane season in Central America, drive through southern South America in the spring and arrive in Ushuaia during the best part of the summer weather!  I envy you the trip!
