Title: wipers not working
Post by: rmmchl on August 29, 2008, 15:36:23
I had my dash apart reconditioning  my vent box-heater core-windshield-radio--etc.-when i put everything back my wipers dont work-the wiper pump works-where do I start to diagnose this  problem? I hope I didn't disconnect something-the fuse that controls this is also the one the wiper washer pump is on, so it is not a fuse. Could it be a relay? -I had the mechanism arm bolt loosened under the glove box, so I could get out the vent dash.I wonder if  I put the bolt arm back too tightly . I have no clue

I agree that if the horn, lighter, and washer pump work, it is not the fuse.  If the turn signals also do not work, I would suspect the stalk switch next.  There was a discussion about the wiper relay in Feb of this year and instructions about how to jumper 2 pins (56 and 56b).  If the wipers turn on, its a bad relay (about $70 at Budz Benz).

I would start with testing the power at the motor.  Unplug it and verify that it isn't getting power.  If it isn't getting power, I would try to check the relay (although I have not read about this before).  I found with my car that it was worth tapping on the relays with the handle of a screwdriver a few times to see if that causes something to happen.   If you ARE getting power at the plug, I would check for a bad ground.

it was the relay-------------i jumped the 56 and 56-b----then i pugged the relay back in and it started working again------is there a way to clean these relays that will occasionally freeze up like that?
