Title: Shield, Dirt
Post by: Joe on August 21, 2008, 21:39:43
One of my 230SLs is in the shop being painted, and I have a question about the "Shield, Dirt" that is at the lower rear of each front wheelwell. The K&K site has this shield, part number 113-884-01-35, which comes with a rubber gasket around it. This is nothing like what is on my car, so I am wondering how this part works. Do you attach it with screws and then paint the wheelwell, or is it mounted after painting is accomplished? It appears to be some sort of access panel that should be removed to clean out something? If so, then it doesn't make sense to attach it and then spray it with body schutz, or whatever that undercoating is called.
I don't recall anyone on this site mentioning this part before, and apologize if this is old news.
Thanks,
Joe

Hard to believe that incredible car in the pictures has a cheap clamp on positive battery connector.I hate those troublesome things. It also is just waiting to start a nice fire right where the bare copper can touch the battery holddown. All that work and one wrong part can just glare out on a great looking job.
