Title: Convertible Top
Post by: redpagoda on August 05, 2008, 15:31:55
I am in the market for a convertible top for my 250SL. As such I was wondering if anyone has purchased a top from the "Convertible top guys" in Rhode Island? I was considering their sonnenland fabric/ canvas. Most of the pre-made tops in Australia are imported from Europe or the US and cost considerably more than buying direct. Your views and comments would be much appreciated

I just bought a "german canvas" top from Bud's Benz for my 230SL and I was very happy with the appearance, fit, and price.

John,
did you install it yourself?  I also am going to have to replace mine sometime, as it is ripped.

Three of us did install it ourselves, and despite our best efforts to screw it up, it did go on fine.  It is a full day job, and you will need plenty of contact cement.  Don't rush, as preparation of the surfaces and dry-fitting each step before you move forward are critical to a good result.  Two people is all that is required, we did it as a family project.
