I bought my Pagoda about 1 year ago and since then I've wondered if the rear bench seat that's in my pagoda is infact original. So I received my data card and it stated that it came out with a rear bench seat. Maybe you can help me...the leather is obviously wrong and what about the shape of the seats?

My back seat in the 250 California car is truly a bench with little or no conturing.
-
Kurt,
You have a Coupe alright, but that bench seat is definitely not original. The leather and Tex versions looked slightly different. What were your seats covered in originally?
-
They look really nice - someone has obviously taken the time to take some styling cues from the fronts. A seatbelt and away you go with the kids...
But, from what I have seen, they are not originals,
-
You could change the contour a bit to match at least one other original bench.
[Actually this is a quiz for Douglas. Any comments Douglas?] :?: ;)

I'm guessing that's the late Weston Hooke's one-off 230SL?

Good eyes, Douglas!
I'll post a few more pictures of the car in this topic:

once Peter comes back from China and de-archives it.
Meanwhile here are the real pictures of the rear bench.

Douglas,
According to the data card, the front seats were covered in dark brown leather with brown carpets. The colour of the car was Tunis Beige Metallic. The car today, has black seats, black carpets and silver outside. So it might be, that when one of the previous owners sprayed the car and re-upholstered the seats, he made up the rear bench seats.

Sorry the digicam went byby. But in photo number 8 you can see the back of it. The bottom back and top are flat and straight. http://flickr.com/photos/mercebman/

You have a "California Coupe" in which a rear bench was standard. Interesting that your trunk emblems are switched. Usually the "280SL" is in the left and the "Automatic" is on the right!

They probably forgot where they went. The car was stripped to metal patched and reassembled 20 years ago by a none MB body shop. I'm happy the fenders have not fallen off. But then thats what you get for a sub $20 car.
-
Thank you Hill, your car is really beautifull!
-
Douglas...
Thank you for the link. All though my rear bench seat is not original, I think mine looks nicer than the original. But at least now I know what it must look like. I'm sure I can modify mine back to the original, it should not be that difficult.
My car also have the 2 leather pieces and could not understand what for, but now I know it's to keep the upright seat down or up.

Mine are both on the left
280SL above Automatic

James, both must be on the left. The 280SL must be above of the Automatic.
