Spent part of the weekend working on some photos for the Pagoda book. Will need a few more more outings, but thought I would include some of the un edited early returns...

Really nice pictures WAM. The interior color goes well with the red.

Not the Scripps conservatory.
It is a conservatory that is on the grounds of the F.A. Siberling estate in my neighborhood in Akron Ohio.
The name of the Estate is Stan Hywet, ( http://www.stanhywet.org/ ). F.A. Siberling was better known as the founder of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
Ahh, the days before a federal income tax…..
Stan Hywet Hall Construction:
Built ~ 1912-1915
Length ~ 300 Feet, the basement extends the length of the house
Height ~ The Main Structure is 3 stories; the Music Room is 2 stories; and the Tower is four stories
Square Footage ~ The Manor House is 64,500 square feet
Materials ~ Red brick, steel, sandstone, Vermont slate, copper, oak and plaster. The interior woods include American oak, chestnut, black walnut, sandalwood, teak and rosewood.
Stone Source ~ Stone out of Lagoon was quarried to produce sand and gravel. Stone blasted and removed from the basement excavation was used to build the "Double divided Garden walls" along Garman and N. Portage Path. All exterior steps and door sills were specified to be Euclid Bluestone supplied and installed by R.C. Blum & F.O. Delbridge of Cleveland. The cut stone was specified to be "first quality Ohio sandstone" supplied by the Donnelly & Ricci Co., NY.
Statistics:
Acreage ~ Approximately 3,000 originally (1916). 70 acres today
Rooms (Manor House) ~ 65
Bedrooms (Manor House) ~ 18 total-5 guest bedrooms, 5 family bedrooms, 8 servants bedrooms, along with 2 sleeping porches, a Nursery and Dormitory

Windows (Manor House) ~ 21,455 panes of glass
Heating/Cooling ~ Coal boilers originally located in the Manor House and all support buildings except the Gate Lodge which used coal fired forced air.
Domestic Staff ~ 22-24, & the Gate Lodge, Gardener's Cottage, Carriage House, and Poultry Manager's House on Reynolds Avenue were also homes for domestics and their families.

Garry,
B E A U T I F U L!!...Fabulous blue sky, rakish angle, not a whole lot of car showing but you KNOW what it is, and of course we KNOW what continent it was taken in! You have embraced and understood the idea. Carry on!!

Wow Garry
That's stunning. Puts my efforts to total shame... :(
Now, I wonder if I could grab a Guardsman in a bearskin hat and have him pose for a photo...

James,
Here's what you do. Solicit the help of a mate. Stop around the corner, and remove your license plate. At the changing of the guard, or some other significant place, come screaming up in your Pagoda, you and your mate jump out. You stay with the car, so you are in the photos. Have the camera on rapid fire (so you can take photos fast) and have your mate start clicking away. You might have about 10-15 seconds, but you might be able to get 20 photos in that brief time. Hop back in James Bond style (jump over the doors), and quickly drive away. Stop in an alley, put the plate back on, and go home. Have someone film it all, too.
Send me the photos before they come knocking on your door! ;)
James, your photos are fine. Everyone's will be different. Yours on the bridge were great.

James,
I actually tried something like that at the front gates to the Governer Generals house a week back, who being your Queens representative and realising that I was a Republician, had the guards politely tell my wife Kate and I to sod off as we were security risks.
Kate got one photo in though.
