My poor baby has been out of action now for 9 months and its breaking my heart. My mechanic cannot get his hands on a cylinder head for the SL 280 engine. He says the part number is 130 018 3201. Does anyone know who remanufactures this part. Is there a difference in the Parts made in the US and in Europe (metric versus Imperial?)
Important info: This car was bought fron Canada and made in the US (I think)

An M-B friend of mine bought a brand new M130 engine head for his restoration project just a few weeks ago.
The vendor in this case was SLS in Hamburg. http://213.239.220.84/start/kontakt.phtml?lan=2
If you are in the US or elsewhere, try vendors closer to you according to list on this website http://sl113.org/links.asp

 Please disreguard what I wrote below, I just read further and found Benz Dr.'s message on 19 Jan. '05 in which he indicated that the engine in my 1970 280SL is original as a 280SE/A and not a rebuilt configuration of some kind. It has had me puzzeled for quite some time as to how it was put togeather.
I have found an interesting situation in which I may have a solution for you, if you are not concerned about original equipment being installed. Looking at the attached photo, you can see that the cylinder head is a 280SE/A and it is installed over the crankshaft housing, which is stamped with the original engine numbers as printed on the original Data Card. The car is a 1970 280SL. It seems a perfect fit and runs quite well. Have had no problems with it.

I have a 280SE/A head from a euro 280SL if someone needs this sort of part. I have the cam that goes with it.

US and European Cylinder heads should be the same. However what would be helpfull is the casting number(this will be different from the part number) which should be on the side of the cylinder head as well as "280" or "280 SE/A".
The year of your car might help as well.
Here is a list of cylinder heads casting numbers from JA17's Cylinder head discussion.

Best of luck,

What is the condition and price? I have early model M130. Will latter model head fit?
