are you talking about timing the inj pump to the motor?

if so.
1. take off the valve cover and distributor cover
2. turn the motor till the timing on the crank is at zero, rotor is pointing at the  hash mark for # cyl, and the cam notch is up and aligned with the hash mark on the front tower.

3. then turn the crank timing to 20 degrees AFTER top dead center.
4. with the inj pump in your hand, look at the front where the gear is.  this is what you need to time.
5 turn the gear till the notch aligns with the hash mark on the front face of the pump.  I think this is about 10 o clock.
6. put the inj pump on the motor and your are done.

I highly recommend you get the mb cd or a haynes manual.  these will help you out quite a bit.  see one of these for the valve job procedure.

Hello MrDevil,

The camshaft turns one revolution for every two turns of the crankshaft. As Merrill has mentioned, make sure the alignment mark on the cam washer is upward along with the cam lobes over number one cylinder. The crankshaft should be turned to 20 degrees after TDC #1.  The marks on the injection pump housing and the notch in the IP spline should be aligned then slid into place. If the distributor is set up properly the rotor will be pointing at the number one cylinder spark plug wire when the crankshaft is at "0" compression stroke #1.

If I understand you correctly, you want to know the correct measurements for the valve clearances.

For the inlet valves the clearance would be 0.1mm and for the exhaust valves: 0.2mm

0.003" on intake--- 0.007" on exhaust.  The same.
