I'm trying to figure out what this _thing_ is and why there is no wire attached to where it seems like a wire should be. If I look in a 230 parts manual it identifies the part as the Electro Magnetic Starting Valve. Sounds reasonable enough. Any suggestions as to how it is to be wired? The car currently starts pretty well but sometimes requires a bit of cranking. I'm guessing that if this part were functioning then the car would start better... See photo.

What I don't know (yet) is why someone disconnected the wire and where the wire should be running. Assumedly to one of the two relays mentioned in the referenced thread....

Depends--- As said before, MB had many different versions of relays, solenoids, sensors, wiring, et al for analog fuel control. Generally, the 'cold start solenoid' was energized by the ignition switch in 'Start' and timed out on temperature. Temperature was sometimes a mechanical temp switch and/or a thermal switch actually in the cooling water. What ever works for you. There is always the cockpit cheater switch.

Known in many quarters as the CSV (cold start valve), I'd say its an essential part of any well-running 113. There is a chance the PO disconnected it because it was leaking -- something we all fear and check and double check as part of regular maintenance. Maybe the car did OK without it -- but I bet it would do better with a properly functioning CSV. [2 cents.]

If needed Hans at H&R can repair the CSV valve / valve seat.
if you need the selenoid repaired / replaced you may have to find a used one. not sure if new ones are available
