I am going to replace the king pin on my 1965 230 SL. An experienced mechanic has detected a small amount of play at 68 000 miles???
Should I also use the repair kit - lower contro arm # A 110 330 03 18
Should I also use the repair kit - upper transverse control arm
# A 110 330 02 18
Thank you
Rupert

I have already purchase the steering knuckle - repair kit # A 111 586 00 33 for $107.00 per side at the local Canadian Tire vs $650.00 from the local Mercedes dealer.

Hello Rupert,
I always have an upper "link pin" kit and a "lower trunion" kit on hand for each side. These are usually worn also when the king pins need replaced. The inner "A arm" mounting points are usually ok except in severe cases. This can be a brutal and dirty job. An 1/2" impact wrench for dis-assembly, can be a life saver. Good luck.

Hi Rupert,
Did that steering knuckle repair kit # A 111 586 00 33 include a new kingpin for that price? If so, that's an excellent price!
Seems strange that a kingpin would wear in only 68,000mi......
When I did my LH kingpin, I also replaced the other 2 part numbers you mentioned. It was a terrible job (lots of rusted/frozen parts!), so while it was apart anyways, I wanted to replace as much as possible. As well, it sometimes is hard to tell exactly where the "play" is, unless you had your nose right in there when it was checked.
