69sl, when in P, the car still rolls and I have to use the parking brake. Linkage problem or tranny problem?

Sounds likea transmission problem to me, since at least from memory 'Park' is not next to 'Neutral' and so linkage would not seem a likely culprit to me.

Hello,

Actually if the linkage is sloppy or out of adjustment the transmission will not lock into park. The transmission will move in any location except locked into park. Check for worn out plastic linkage bushings first. Easy to check. Get the car off the ground and manually move the transmission lever as far as possible to park and see if the locking mechanism engages when the wheels are turned.

Also wouldn't it be good to check the cable and lever on that neutral/reverse lock mechanism on the firewall? Sometimes if that sticks, the car won't lock in park.
